DIY low profile headlights?

has anyone made low profile headlights to get rid of the barn doors? how did they work out? i was thinkin of mounting the turnsignal lights in there and just changing the bulb to something stronger.

IIRC someone used some Corvette lights to make their own. The brainstorm/moss kit is pretty cool.

Using high bulbs in the turn signals will only melt your lenses, installing secondary LED lights maybe a good route, add a relay and use them as DTRL's

I am going to do this (as in making my own flush mount headlights) . I'll let you know how it turns out.

Not sure if you're referring to flush-mount or low-pro, but here's my rendition of the DIY low-pro 4x6 headlights:

i have some lights in my turn signal areas that i made for a total of under $25 i dont really use the barn doors unless i'm going slow and need to see more. the lights arent as bright as the barn doors, but they work plenty good enough to drive with. plus, i've driven the car past as many cops as i could find without getting pulled over. i've been thinking of going to an hid kit next for them and perhaps making some kind of nice housing for them. oh yeah, my avatar is obviously before i did this mod.

Juh, can you provide a close up pic of your housings you have? I'm interested in trying something along these lines.

I have some big like 4" fog light holes in my bomex bumper so I figure someday I will stuff some in there and never use my barn doors again.

Ohh I'm a noob to this FOURM... I've been scoping around some of the people's miata's trying to get some ideas.

Well Recently I got into a car accident with my miata, I so far replaced the bumper and rad. support and hood.

I am far too lazy to replace the driver side headlight and I was thinking of flush mounts, but I kinda want to be unique. I saw your miata... I want to know more on how you did it. Can you please tell me what kind of material you used?

Depends on the bulb. I used some Sylvania halogens in the turn signal housings with great success, however, the second set of similarly spec'd bulbs I popped in melted the housings in short order.

I've since switch over to an LED set up.

They don't throw a ton of light, but, they are nice to use when driving in well lit cities or around dusk when you don't need the dork-factor of the stock pop ups. For what its worth, their convincing enough to not be bothered by the local law enforcement.
