Any opinions here? 6 - 8psi max. The less noise the better. I know about the Bosch, though opinions and experiences are most welcome.

i used a 2g dsm bov before i got my loud gfb one, worked fine. A 1g dsm bov is better for higher boost levels since it's metal but has a unique flange and costs a lot more. No esperience with the bosch ones but i think the cheaper ones are problematic

i still have my 2g one for cheap if you're interested

Just about any OEM BOV off a car that came stock with a turbo will work fine. Volvo, Saab, DSM, EVO, Subaru, whatever. They are designed to be quiet and all will recirc.

I'm using the bosch (whatever the best made one is) at 7psi. It's VTA right now, I'm going to add a filter. I was surprised how loud it was. No problem hearing from the driver's seat with a hard top on and windows down. It doesn't sound bad though. Not obnoxious in the least bit, but there's not mistaking that the car is turbocharged. - rob

I'm no expert, but wouldn't a large part of the noise come from the VTA? And mightn't a recirc'ing BOV be even worse since they didn't care when designing it?

If you use a bypass valve it will make less noise. We have a Mitsubishi valve we use and love. It can run up to 25r psi, and is very inexpensive and durable.

Yes- if I vented it to my intake it would make it much quieter, if not silent. The bov doesn't care where it vents to, it's just releasing pressure. It's given the name "recriculating" because that's how it's used in an OE applications. - rob

yea i like the bosch ones. i had this idea you couldnt hear them at all, not true, sounds like rushing air and isnt loud enough that everyone at the intersection hears it

I believe it's exactly the opposite. Most VTA BOV's, like Greddy, turboXS, etc... are specifically designed to make noise, some might say "designer noise", that's why some of them are 6" long. They're practically a musical instrument. The are engineered for that high-pitched blast of air, Fast&Furious style so you know they have a big turbo (and a small ****).

OEM BOV's (Bosch, etc...) are designed to be quiet, so you don't hear them. They also recirc into an enclosed space (the intake) to further reduce the noise.

Actually, we're arguing the same point. He said he was using the Bosch recirc but venting to atmosphere. Probably no difference in decibels though--just pitch!

The housing is directional. It has a slight tapper to it so if/when you install it put the wider end towards the intake. This creates a slight pressure differential in the tube and helps hold the valve shut. You can use it as a blow-off if you don't have a MAF or use it as a bypass valve. I did a MAP conversion on my DIY turbo and I'm using this valve as a blow-off. The sound is smooth and higher in tone lacking any wistle or squeel. Just a "shhhhhh".

I had this same OEM bypass valve in my 626 (same exact car). At 15psi I couldn't hear it. Although I was using stock plumbing, but I've heard other OEM vavles that are louder.
