This shit is horrible. I had my mind made up on what I wanted to do (AFM/Bipes/O2 clamp/AFPR) but I started adding up the cost and seeing people have issues with this setup and started thinking it might be easier to just venture into the land of megasquirt...
Here is the plan: 1990 1.6. Stock motor: 190-200 rwhp w/ a GT2554R at about 12 lbs. Have: Garrett/MSP GT2554r ACT XT PP and ST Disc - all that jazz for changing it 24x4x3 IC Wheels/Tires Rota Circuit 8s w/ Azenis 615s(at least better than stockers!) 2.5" exhaust and test pipe Begi Manifold and Downpipe Torsen Swap Laptop Megasquirt Ebay Bov Jun Flywheel Oil Feed AEM Wideband O2 Comming Soon: 550cc S5 Turbo Injectors Instrument Hood Paint!!!!! Need: Oil/Water lines IC Piping Gauges A Miracle Want: Tires Automatic TPS Finish Panel :( This shit gets expensive quick. |
Hey guys...first update, whats a fair price on 550cc injectors? $100 for a used working set sound fair?

You don't need a new fuel pump. I wouldn't pay 100 for uncleaned 550s, but i would if they had been cleaned recently.

How much would be fair price...and will the factory pump support that? I thought I read that it needed to be upgraded...so lost. :(

only needs to be upgraded if you are controlling fuel through "analog" means. $100 was the average I saw on uncleaned 550s when I was shopping for mine. I found mine for $85 though after a little looking and got injector clips on ebay for $15 shipped. I think cleaned 550s would run a little more than $120-130 normally.

Well...due to the circumstances...it seems that a Torsen rear end will be thrown in the mix...
So...a clutch that can hold 277 ft-lbs...and a Torsen LSD...this ought to make things a little interesting. |

You only need a fuel pump if you will be adding fuel by increasing the fuel pressure. Since you are going with a MS you will be running larger injectors and/or increasing the duty cycle of the injectors and therefor do not need to increase fuel pressure to get additional fuel. The stock pump can flow enough fuel for most applications (probably want to replace it over 300 whp, but I don't have personal experience here yet and could be wrong).

why 550's ......thats too large of an injecter, why not go with light green top mkII injecters....they plug right in, Get a emanage dude...simple and effective
If you want extra control over fuel pressure get a vortech along with the emb..use a 6:1 or 8:1 disc. Emanage,boomslang harness, and call it solved |

The more corners you cut, the more issues that will follow, good luck with the ms, it's great for the price and involves alot of patience and time...its no weekend project. Oh and the price will add up believe it, wiring, various sensors and parts to make the ms work will be needed but will be worth it in the long run...I plan one day to go ms...but for now Im sticking with the em

I'm WAY to lazy/incompetent to build my own. And if you take out the tires, suspension, and rear end, I really haven't spent much on the actual turbo stuff. |

Well...just talked to the salvage yard guy and he might have a Torsen Unit coming in tomorrow!
Also, a friend of mine has a laptop she said she would sell me for cheap so I can do some tuning...when the MS comes in. |

Sweet, finally found a local torsen rear end and I made a deposit, I'm going to pick it up on the 24th and hopefully have it in that weekend!!!

braineak's flywheel should be next. Next time I'm home I'm going to pick up my friends laptop. MS might have to wait. |

well...with the group buy for megasquirt mostly defunct...I had to spend something...figure now I can figure out my IC piping...work on MS once I get my taxes back...pay off the credit card a bit...:)

You'll make some nice power. I put down 190whp @ 15psi on stock exhaust with what will be the same setup as your almost. Just watch the timing :-0 Thats what blew mine.

I advanced too far. I think you should put down like 230ish with exhaust. Beyond that and you are out of the efficiency range of the turbo. That power level is fun though :)

Mine spooled low because of the restrictive exhaust, The dyno plot is in my vbgarage.

That is the one, its a good 4ish feet long. The motor in my car was a jdm replacement so it didnt have the standard feed spot tapped. I had to run a line to a T at the oil pressure sensor. I'm not up for selling the T though, it was ghetto rigged :P You can buy a T that is proper though for like $20 from some site, I have the link somewhere.

Not much progress, I bought MS, a friend and I are building it and I'm trying to figure out how to wire it...got a bov...working on piping...still need a wastegate for my turbo.

the flywheel should acutally be coming off this weekend..... Doing all my work now so i dont have it down this summer.... (so, finish the rear, flywheel swap, MS)

Damn...so this has been a busy week or two:
I just picked up my: -MS and AEM wideband O2 with everything to finishing building/install -Being loaned a Stim -Got my flywheel (clutch and bearing ready to go...just gotta wait till this weekend or next) -550cc RX-7 Injectors on the way -BOV/Piping should be at the house -Waiting on WOT to get my wastegate -Just have to order my lines, taps, fittings, IC piping and a bunch of random shit and I should be near completion... -Should start the clutch job this weekend -Finishing school and transferring the job to home store to work for the summer -Just got done with an amazing night drive! |
