diy turbine map

i've been continuing to think about the turbine map and transitional response comments in this thread: https://www.miataturbo.net/race-prep-75/track-use-turbo-compressor-discussion-53218/

specifically, i am interested in: what is the flow of a given turbine wheel+housing combo at what back pressure? what is the accompanying compressor flow? what is transitional response?

I was thinking if instrumenting a turbo with a turbo speed sensor, a maf and map sensor on the turbine inlet. also a maf on the compressor inlet. then hook the turbine side up to a scuba tank or compressed nitrogen bottle and start datalogging.

open the valve slowly and get steady state log of compressor flow per turbine flow (with back pressure) for the full speed range of the chra. then start opening and closing the valve and see if can get some logs of transitional response (this part is still half baked).

then swap out turbo for another and build up a library of data.

comments welcome.

I envy you for having the time. The info would be very helpful. Be sure to have a link to a page explaining how to use the info you gather.

comments: wow you are a machine.
I'm impressed:)

I will sell you my turbomachinery book if you want. More info on this kinda stuff then you will ever want to know. I took a class on it. It was mostly grad students and i understood like 5% of it (and that was more than most people)

Sounds like a lot of work.

you guys are being awfully polite for such a dumb idea.

i dunno if i'll actually try it, but i'm building a ms3 for a motor which it doesn't support yet, so this project is actually a lot closer to reality than my car. besides, i have an extra maf, and a few more i can borrow. i have welding gas. so it costs nothing to try it.

i found PRINCIPLES OF TURBOMACHINERY.pdf but nobody is seeding right now. i wonder if its the same?

i dunno if i have that kind of commitment. it just irritates the hell out of me that i understand this stuff as poorly as i do. figured i'd try to hook up a t2 .86, a t3 .63, and a tial .whatever and datalog and see if i can understand bit better.
