DIY Turbo setup not making boost...?
 
As the title says my turbo setup is not building any boost.

I have a garret t3 super 60 turbo with an internal wastegate mounted on a DIY log style manifold (basically a copy of the JGS mani). I'm using a dashpot from an '87 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II because the spring is ~5.5 psi and the bracket seemed to work well for my setup. I also have a nissan z31 dashpot but am not using it.

The setup doesn't seem to be building boost, I'm guessing the flapper door is being held open. I wonder if I installed the dashpot incorrectly i.e. if the arm is under too much stress or not situated correctly or something.

The z31 dashpot came with the turbo but I couldn't use it in it's original location because I had to clock the compressor housing. I was going to build a bracket for the z31 dashpot but found the rx7 one fit with very little modification, however the arm is at an angle from where it want's to sit and is under some stress.

Can you guys throw some reasons out there why the car wouldn't be building any boost? Also can someone clarify the correct way to install a dashpot for an internal wastegate.

DOH! I meant to put this in the DIY section. If someone could move this that would be great.

I don't think it's a piping leak because it's running on the MAF right now and I don't think it would idle perfect like it does with that big of a leak. It's certainly something I'll have to check though.

If you have too long of an arm on your actuator the gate will never close. check to make sure that the gate arm off the turbine is at a 90* angle to the flange, if not then you WG is leaking.

If that's fine, the next thing to do is check for intake leaks.

So I should check for piping leaks and make sure the gate arm off the turbine is at a 90* angle to the flange?

Anything else? I'm going back to work on the car tomorrow and Friday.

Even with my wastegate arm disconnected I could make like 1.5 psi, fwiw. Do you hear the turbo spool up or air rushing like it's leaking?

You can also unbolt the downpipe from the turbo and hook a bicycle tire pump and boost gauge to the wastegate actuator, that way you can make sure the gate is fully closed when you want it to be, and find out how much pressure it takes to open the thing.

I hear neither of those things.

Mechazawa's idea sounds good, anyone else tried something like that?

the wastegate actuator arm shoud be tight, and pulling the wastgate closed tightly.

otherwise look for leaks in the intake.
