Do I need a turbo rebuild?

I have a used GT2560 out of a Nissan. There isn't any shaft play, but if I spin it with my fingers it has almost zero 'coasting'. It'll be stationary almost immediately.

Should the shaft spin freely and keep spinning? I tried pouring a bit of oil into the inlet and that didn't seem to change much.

Fingers crossed I don't need a rebuild, my adventures in turbo-finding have not gone well at all (Wasted $300 on a T28 that didn't fit my manifold, then bought this one off the zilvia forums).

Just a data point for you, I had the same problem. Installed it and got it up to temperature and it freed up nicely. My theory is the oil gummed up and it needed the heat for the fresh oil to wash it away. Could have just as easily been trashed bearings.

FYI, ball bearing Garret's can't be rebuilt. Journal bearing turbos can be but there are a huge number of ways you can screw it up.

Yeah I definitely want to see it on a running car before making any judgement calls. I'm sending the car to the dyno/tuner in a few weeks and let's hope they don't call me up and say that it's shot!
