Mach929 11-28-2007 10:40 PM

0 would be the safest.

Now if you are moderately risk adverse 6 PSI, those who are a little braver run 12 PSI, through down some cash and do it right, about 20 PSI. I ran 18 PSI on the stock motor for a while.

ya, i was joking, need to know your setup before anyone can give you any suggestions. plus what you use the car for and how much you rely on it

Savington 11-29-2007 12:25 AM

15psi from a GT2554R is safe on the stock block. 10psi from a GT3276R will be rough on the stock block. 6psi of ANYTHING without proper tuning will grenade even the most heavily built motor in short order. What's your setup?

The general thought is that you're safe on stock internals up to around 250whp. The larger a turbo you use to get there, the safer you are (less heat).

patsmx5 11-29-2007 12:39 AM

I've been running 32 PSI for over a year with a stock motor with no problems; my tires are wearing fine.....

"Safest Max PSI"

That's a contradiction. Zero would be the safest. Around here your gonna BS answers when you post something without any background info. I dare say but give us a good idea of your budget, goals, and desire to fabricate and maybe we can help.

If you love your engine, you will blow it and swallow.

mxdrift 11-29-2007 07:23 AM

thanks for you info my set up is sr20det turbo re-built, greddy profec 2 boost controller, aem wideband with 02 sensor, aem f/ic, rx-7 550 purple top injectors, 28x9x3 frontmount 2.5 piping, 3" turbo back exhaust, everything ealse the shop is going to do it i'm going to use the car for drifting and street.. i would like to run 10psi but i didn't know if that would be safe or not
my goal for hp is 220 to 240 if that's possible... i just bought the parts the shop is going to the everthing ealse.

magnamx-5 11-29-2007 08:09 AM

250+ is possible if your cooling holds out from there out i would look at a bigger turbo.

Arkmage 11-29-2007 08:52 AM

I think 240 whp would be pushing it for that T25, but the rest of your equipment is spot on for 300 whp. If you aren't strapped for cash I'd move to a slightly bigger turbo. If you are tune what you've got and see what your intake temps are like.

Braineack 11-29-2007 09:25 AM

I don't think the sr20 turbo (60 trim) likes to output more than 25 lb/min, which is good for around 200-220rwhp max.

with that in mind, they make boost fast, have a SCer like torque curve and is a get into turbo....once the boost bug bites, you can easily upgrade to a T28, GT25, GT28, etc.

samnavy 11-29-2007 09:39 AM

That's the turbo I run.. made 190whp on bandaids at 12psi... shouldn't be too hard to make that much on the 10psi you're running with the AEM. If my motor isn't blown, I'll be dyno'ing shortly and will be able to tell you what the SR20 .60 is good for. I'm running a 2.25" exhaust, but I'm still hoping for 220@12-13psi... might be dreaming, but there's always 14psi.

Also, mxdrift, fill out your profile with your location and put a short list of your setup in your signature so people don't have to ask you in the future.

mxdrift 11-29-2007 12:43 PM

all right i'll do

Mach929 11-29-2007 05:22 PM

10psi should be peferctly safe and fun around 200whp

mxdrift 11-29-2007 08:52 PM

really good what if i wanted 240hp how could i get there

Safely?

New pistons, rods, and rings.

Savington 11-30-2007 07:14 PM

240whp will take a GT2560R, a built shortblock, a standalone EMS, and a big exhaust. Your 2nd gear will be essentially useless on the street, and you will probably break a transmission within 3-5 years, FAR less if you shift hard regularly. The car will run a low-mid 13 second quarter mile.

What experience do you have with fast cars (and I'm talking faster than STIs)?

mxdrift 11-30-2007 07:21 PM

well i have the big exhaust i'm using full 3"turbo back and about the faster than sti umm nothing he he...

Because I'm a fucking mind-reader and I know what "nothing he he" means. I've had at least one person tell me they couldn't handle a 220whp Miata on an everyday basis, and for someone who isn't looking for a really fast car, I agree with them. You're running a 3" turbo-back on your stock motor?

Fill your signature with your mods so we can actually help you.

all right
