Downpipe help

Hi,

I am playing around with downpipe design.
I got flexible bellow from WOT and I'd like to ask how close to turbo should I put it?
Closer would be <8" from turbine and further maybe 16", but it would be outside in airflow.

That's the oddest Miata I've ever seen. :)

I don't think it would really matter would it. Further from the turbo would probably make it last longer.

I've always seen them just before the cat on EVERY car i've ever worked on.

Usually about where the exhaust starts to travel horizontal works well.

Same here. And right before the cat also just happens to be were it becomes horizontal.

The first one IMO would look the best, function wise, i doubt it will matter in your case. Long as it has room to flex.

So close to turbo would burn hole to it quicker.

And the car is just lightened Miata... :)

Thanks

I dont think you really need it... but if you want it, put it where it's supported well on both sides. the last thing you want a flex to do is ... flex.

I really don't want to have one there if I can get out of it somehow. I am just worried that with motor moving around with torque and exhaust moving on bumps it would be good if there was some place which had a bit of "give" to let the welds and the turbo housing with less stress.
I quess I could try once without flex part and add it after if the exhaust cracks.
Or maybe suspend the muffler from both ends and have springs holding it in exhaust to allow little flex there.
