DIY LS/GM coil mounting on VVT
Searched around and couldn't find much. FM's kit was going to go on Blaen99's car, but due to shipping delays and when he needed to go home with the car, I left him with this. Figured why not post my solution for coil mounting for others.
FM's mounts also require taking off the two VVT oil line castings, cutting, drilling, and tapping for NPT-AN adapters, and a 30" -4AN SS line. The mounts are $44, the line is what, $30? So $75 total, this cost me $10 (already had the pipe for the spacers) at HD, and took about an hour to mock up. And I'm ---- about deburring and such.
P.S. since when did A-nal become censored?
Coils are LS3, wires are NA NGKs.
Using a pipe cutter like this:
Really made quick work of the spacers. Lock your calipers to the desired length, scribe a small mark (not the proper use of calipers, btw), and clamp the cutting wheel right on the mark.
The rest is 1/4-20 all-thread, angle aluminum and bar stock, all pretty self explanatory.
