Drilling the Greddy for 10mm question.
Okay, so the fellow I gave the turbo and manifold got the drilling and tapping of the manifold right as I can thread the 10mm studs into there, but the studs don't fit through the holes he drilled in the turbo. It's close, but not quite.
What size drill bit should I be using for this if I attempt to enlarge the hole? I'm looking at various tables online and I'm not really clear on this. Also, I probably need to bring this to someone with a drill press. Hm, looks like a cheap drill press is $125 or so. |
Buy some $6 calipers at harbor freight. Measure the OD of the studs, then pick a bit that's barely bigger than that measurement.
You shouldn't need a drill press, the new drill will center fairly well on the current hole. |
or just eyeball it and use a thin dremel like I did lol

Okay, those are options I have considered. I guess I will choose one and go for it. I think I need a few more drill bits to choose from for this though (or dremel bits).

honestly just use an 11mm and a hand drill.
Cast turbocharger parts drill extremely easily, you will be amazed that you made any fuss about it. Dann |
Okay, I feel better about the whole thing. I was holding off, but now I'll just go at it with the drill.
|
Drilled it out. Unfortunately, the guy who did the holes for 10mm in the manifold didn't get one of them lined up properly. Won't work. I can't see maybe half the stud hole when I line up the other three. Criminy, this is why you don't use friends to help out with this crap.

Of course, now I have an excuse to get the axial manifold from abe. :naughty: Though, that was not my intent. :vash: |
