I finally decided it was time to get an MBC because I wanna go faster, and have the headroom. I don't know why I've waited so long. 9psi is fun, but I want MORE BOOSTZ!!1!1!!


Anyhow, I saw the same cheap garbage, all starting at $15 that comes with a bunch of cheap hosing and mounting crap I don't need, and then I saw this:

I built mine for $8 including shipping, took 5 minutes to assemble.

Yeah, I know...it's pretty much what I'd do if I went to the hardware store.

But by the time you spend the time driving, gas, probability of an accident and the slight headache of finding the right spring and ball it's worth it.

I spent $7 more than you (free shipping) and probably saved myself two hours that could be spent at work, in garage, or at pool with daughter. I also saved a gallon of gas in my case, and don't have to put up with anything annodized blue in my engine bay.

I understand the DIY aspect on big things like the exhaust system I'm about to tackle...but this is a headache free gimme putt.

I'm just excited because I've had exactly $48 just burning a hole in my Paypal pocket for over a month, and I finally put it to work on something beneficial. Now my build budget is down to $33. Must sell interior.

Yeppers, 10 bucks at my local hardware store...easy to make. Finding the spring and ball bearing is tough, have to go to a local business, not Home Depot or Lowes...they dont have it.

This is the MBC that Paul, DisturbedFan, myself, and a few others here in N.J. all use. Works very well. Although we (well, Paul) had to use some J.B. Weld to reduce the diameter of the breather hole on mine because it was over-boosting. Now it works perfectly.

I've been using one for a while as well. The hardest part about building it yourself is not just finding the spring, but getting it to the right length so you have actual control. If it's too long, the screw does nothing. Too short and it leaks and does nothing.

Got mine really quick. Looks like real quality that would have taken me nearly as much money and a lot of time to replicate, but definitely how I would have done it.

Haven't installed yet, no reason to since I'm without suspension. Looking forward to upping it a few psi though. Should make life interesting again, and will find the next unsorted link.

I've used a bunch of these in the past:


It's nice being able to lock your boost in, and being able to have proper measuring through "clicks". So you can set your boost, then lets say go 5 clicks in advance, and then to put it back, go 5 clicks back. I think they're worth the $60.

I believe the reason is that as the MBC spring compresses, you are fighting against a building pressure force as the air behind the ball compresses. Put a bleed hole behind it, and the pressure has someplace to go. Make the hole small enough and it has virtually no impact on the boost the wastegate sees. Basically, the smallest drill bit you have.

Does anyone get a whistle/whining noise coming from their bleed holes at 10lbs+?
