Dyno Comparisons

Mach929 had me looking at some of my dyno files, so I made some comparison files just for shits and giggles.
GT2554R on a 1.6L vs 1.8L engine. Only major difference between the two cars besides displacement is stock cat on 1.6L vs. 2.5" highflow cat on 1.8L and 1-2psi more boost on 1.6L. Look at the difference in low end torque. http://i4.tinypic.com/8c01jdw.jpg Same 1.6L car, GReddy vs. GT2554R at roughly the same boost. Only difference was stock cat with GT25 vs. 2.5" highflow cat with GReddy. Even with the stock cat, look at the spool advantage. :bigtu: http://i18.tinypic.com/6wr31aq.jpg V8 vs. Scott's turbo miata. Granted the V8 could only wind it out to about 5k rpm until better cams but look at that torque! Yes, it's the higher of the two red lines. http://i15.tinypic.com/80niurr.jpg And for those of you who the linked pics don't work, I've attached the same pics in the correct order. Disclaimer: I forgot to mess with corrections so the numbers are higher than usual SAE corrected numbers, but the whole point was not the raw numbers, but the comparisons. |
Who's v8 it is a 302 i assume? that is pretty decent if it is.

IIRC it is a 302 V8.
Mark, I was trying to compare the V8 to a more "typical" turbo miata, and we both know that yours is far from typical. :) Regardless of power, it certainly had the best sounding exhaust at dyno day. |

I take it you like your new setup:) Not that it matters much, but I was running 8psi, not 9psi. I'm suprised you didn't get into the 190's at 10psi.
There is no doubt about it, get the gt25r if you want instant spool and a ton of low end torque. I can't wait to see what my new turbo is putting down. Hopefully I'll have a comparison of my potato vs the old gt25r setup soon. |
I like this comparison:
https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...ott_vs_tom.jpg granted my exhaust and headwork but :gay: |

Hopefully I'll have a comparison of my potato vs the old gt25r setup soon. The biggest issue with the GReddy at the track was the peaky power delivery. While that nitrous hit like power hit is super fun on the street, it's not as fun coming out of a turn at the track. Granted it makes you really work on throttle control, but it made things tougher as sometimes getting on the gas on the same corner at slightly different rpms made for completely different results. As for the power, remember, I have the smaller engine as well as some boost control issues as well. Looking at my datalog, the boost was wavering around 9-11 so I just called it 10psi. |

How about my turbo vs. Tom's latest and greatest '99 FFS:
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1195480468 just simply comparing the low-end torque output on my 1.6L vs. a '99s 1.8L with a coldside non-the-less. |

That's because my turbo car wasn't there. Bruce told me my exhaust is the best he's heard on a Miata.
