Default My turbo setup, got some questions

Hey guys. Im starting to turbo my miata. So far I ordered the HKS cast manifold, all the gauges. I will be going t25 or t28. Im looking for a downpipe and was wondering what you guys recommend? Are the ebay universal intercoolers any count? Do they even fit right? I know alot of friends that have used ebay IC kits, but they are all on 240s, and they are made for 240s. Also, where would you recommend getting oil lines?

Thanks in advance!

search.

The thread above this can answer some of your questions.

Tunertoys has great oil and coolant kits... downpipe has to be custom... and the CXracing or other ebay FMIC "Kits" are still a complete DIY thing with generic bends. Do your homework, you will find your answers here.

Ok thanks, so I would just hafto cut some of the piping from the IC kits, and just run piping off the turbo myself, ok, thankyou. Im trying to cancel my order of the HKS manifold and get the Megan racing Mani/downpipe combo...anyone with experience with those?

Search.

With DIY turbo kits the intercooler kits are all going to be DIY in terms of piping. The Ebay pipe kits are a great to get a lot of parts for fairly cheap. Just make sure the couplers don't look rediculously thin, and pay the extra $10 for one of the kits that has T-bolt clamps instead of worm clamps.

Also once you decide on the turbo, figure out where the compressor outlet could be pointed and try to get an idea of how you're going to route the pipes. If you need a bunch of 45* bends and the ebay kits only come with one plus a bunch of other bends you don't need, obviously that's not the kit for you.

Search and search and search some more on different intercooler layouts on here. I did mine over the top of the radiator because of the routing simplicity, but honestly the cutting and getting the damn thing to fit was probably not worth it in the end. Just try to eliminate all couplers and replace them with piping bends, the less failure points the better. Also keep in mind things like the idler air line, and the blow off valve positioning and the room it'll need. Also you need to obviously not block the inlet to the turbo, and save room for your air flow meter (if you're still using it), filter adapter, and filter.

Oil lines can be bought at Summit racing.com, assuming you know the inlet and exit size and have the nessecary adapters from the miata's metric threads to the standard threads you'll see on -AN lines.

You might be looking at making your own downpipe, but I could be wrong. I bought my turbo/manifold/downpipe all at the same time, and at 2.5" I luckily haven't had to mess with it yet. Best of luck.

Keep searching, hope this helps.

240 to Miata beat me to it, apparently I'm a slow typist at 80wpm.

Appreciate it guys. I am trying to cancel my order for the HKS mani, and go with the Meganracing Mani/DP combo thing, so I dont just have piping running off the turbo, instead have a real DP made for the setup. I will be running a Garrett t28.

Hmm...do some searching.

I have a bad memory, but I thought the HKS was a quality piece and the Megan stuff tends to crack. Don't quote me, again, seek and ye shall find.

Yeah, I did some search, the HKS can crack as well and was advised to do some modification to it reduce stress points, but I think its worth it to me to "risk" the manifold that comes with a DP and save around 100 bucks doing so, without having to buy a DP that wont work just to cut it apart for the flange, then custom make piping to extend it.
