Ebay Manifold?
Hello there im new hear and have a 1990 mazda mx5 which I would like to turbo i though this would be a good place to start :)
I've just brought this turbo manifold of eBay: Click here! The guy says a TD04-15G turbo from a Volvo 850 would fit the manifold, could you guys on here confirm this? Is there any other turbos which would straight fit this manifold? I've heard that these manifolds are prone to cracking so is there anything i can do to stop this? This is gonna be quiet a cheap set-up but the mx5 is going through a engine change at the moment and am doing all the usual bits to the engine going in cambelt kit, seals etc. I posted this on another forum and got bad feedback, but one guy says that a couple of you USA guys are successfully using these manifolds. Many thanks in advance! |
you not going to like what you gonna hear
if you bought that manifold you may as well have bought a welding machine that manifold will crack you will curse that manifold the cast ebay manifold has better success - that manifold in your auction link is made from too thin a material - there are pictures on this forum of where and how they crack |

ah don't listen to these naysayers, I am installing that manifold on my miata currently and know of another member who has been running that manifold for quite a while now. It is cheap and will crack, UNLESS, you brace it. If you brace the shit out of it then it should hold up fine. Don't know who told you about that turbo, but those manifold accept all DSM (Mitsubishi) turbos I believe. I know for a fact at least that both 16G's will fit, and since the 16G shares an exhaust housing with the 14B that should also fit, and maybe the 15C as well? However someone more reputable in the DSM turbo history should come and verify what I have said. However if I were to do it again (which I will), I would have bought the cast manifold for the T3 turbo on ebay, and then also bought one of ebay's cheap T3 turbos to go with it.

Yeah, you can run a 14b through a 20g on that flange. .

9c (off the 3000gt VR4.... may as well have gotten a paper weight as it stupidly small even for the 1.6) 13B (off an automatic 90-94 DSM) 14B (off a 5spd 90-94 DSM) 16G (or EVO 16G) Common upgrade 20G another common upgrade (becoming harder and harder to find with the massive influx of Garrett Turbo with Mitsu turbine housing DSM t25 (off the 95-99 DSM) not the same as the Nissan or Garrett T25...again Not the same as a Nissan or Garrett T25 DSM t28 (upgrade for the 95-99 DSM, rare to find and not worth what most people want for it) Again not the same as a Nissan or Garrett T28 Then there is the massive amount of ForcedPerforance turbos but like 20g it going to be to much turbo for almost any B6 or BP motor. |
I just dont understand why you would buy a manifold AND THEN look for a turbo to fit it. shouldnt it be the other way around?
|
well 'cause 14b's only cost half a handjob
|
brand new 14b's in stock, $500

hey buddy, welcome! Everyone asks about the ebay manifold roughly every 30 seconds on here, so why don't you stfu and kill yourself because you're going to die a virgin anyway.

I have a ebay mani, It CRACKs, CRACK, CRACK! But I am going to have it welded.
But for $150 for a mani and downpipe. $100 for a used turbo. It will work. And it is fast. If you are going to put $1100 in it, get something different. If you are going all junk yard and shooting for $750 it can be done. But you got to get good deals, and that takes time. |

Good Luck! |
you don't realy need to brace it, but it doesn't hurt to do so. what you will want to do with it is grab a monkey welder, some stainless wire and and lay down some realy heavy beads across all of the existing welds. if left alone it will crack. not the pipe, but the welds. so lay some big ass, shity thick welds all over that hooker and let it eat. unless you haven't bought it yet. if that is the case then go for the cast one.
