looking to buy a plug and play ecu
options
megasquirt
link
hydra
microtech
wolf
Maruha Freedom Engine Management System
which one is best???
just dont want to blow up again..hahahahah
thanks

PaKMaN 03-17-2007 05:48 PM

Theres also an optional E manage Blue. If money isn't an issue go with AEM.

greddymx5 03-17-2007 06:43 PM

I always loved the tec 3...

mazda/nissan 03-17-2007 06:45 PM

how adjustable are the emanage blues? I want something to back up my rx7 MAF.

filphil 03-18-2007 01:55 AM

Don't take my word for it, but if you mean rx7 AFM, then the emanage blue would be ur only choice. If you go for full standalone, you have the option to remove the AFM

y8s 03-18-2007 11:34 AM

AEM +1
or megasquirt if you like to solder

jasono718 03-18-2007 12:23 PM

aem is better than a link???
same adjustability as a link??
thanks

LOL!

Honestly, wow.

AEM is far more superior then link. Has far more adjustability then link.

jasono718 03-18-2007 12:30 PM

really...
thats good news cause its also cheaper than a link....
i just had to drop over 1500 for a new bottom end so didnt really want to spend 1700 for an ecu

thanks

ps will it be able to control 25psi if i need it too with the right tune??

Ben 03-18-2007 12:34 PM

The Link is not the most capable ECU on the market, but inarguably comes with the best support.

y8s 03-18-2007 12:35 PM

the aem specs are on their website:

http://aempower.com/ViewCategory.aspx?CategoryID=62

also check their forums.

Is that an EVOIII16G or just a regular 16G? AEM will control however much boost you want to run.

magnamx-5 03-18-2007 12:46 PM

he said big 16g so i geus he wants to run in the upper psi range for HP. evo3 nad small are better for less than 15 psi. but on our motors and with our usualy gaols it doesnt matter alot.

EVO3 is the biggest of all the factory 16g's.

The EVO3 GT is bigger but that never came from the factory.

jasono718 03-18-2007 02:22 PM

i had a evo3 16g on at first then switched to a small 16g now im back with the big 16g again...
the big 16g feels like it has a lot more power....

magnamx-5 03-18-2007 02:31 PM

I never said it wasnt the bigest man i just said it was for running higher boost levels than the small 16g and that th eevo3 out flowed it everywhere. Dont get all emo on me now man.
Any way what kinda spool are you getting on the respective 16g's my small is making 2 psi by 1800 now with the overbore, 1900 before. how is yours? And what boost level some info would be nice there are to few 16g miatas out there

spike 03-18-2007 03:12 PM

The only ECU I would be concerned about is the Maruha Freedom ECU,although it's very capable,it is also written in Japanese and has a very small user base.

So unless you can read Japanese, you should consider something else.

jasono718 03-18-2007 04:29 PM

the big 16g hits 10psi by about 4k rpms the small hit by about 3300... i think that spool up is being affected by the stock afm though...

magnamx-5 03-18-2007 04:32 PM

damn how the hell was the small hiting 10 by 3300 i hit 8 or so by then or maybe a little more the needle moves so fast. i am realy interested in this what are you running besides megan stuff and 16g.

jasono718 03-18-2007 05:49 PM

it might have been a little higher than that.... but not too much..
i have a big front mount custom intercooler and custom pipes
fm off road pipe
fm 2.5" single exhaust
walboro 190lph hp pump
fpr
just put in 305cc supra green tops before it blew up
rfl bov
fm cam gears
gates timing belt

jasono718 03-18-2007 05:50 PM

ohh and an rx7 maf with no filter on it..
i had a u pipe on it before but it was restricting the spool up too much...

magnamx-5 03-18-2007 05:51 PM

nice cept for the BOV and FMIC we have alot of the same stuff. you dynoed it ever?

jasono718 03-18-2007 07:03 PM

havent put it on a dyno yet...
was waiting until i got a standalone...
now i have to wait until i get the motor rebuilt and order the aem ems

lazzer408 03-19-2007 12:11 AM

I'm running the pnp AEM EMS and I couldn't be happier!!! =) It makes tuning somewhat easy with the automapping. It is a complicated ecu but all the better for tunning. If my neighbor took a S--t and there's methanol in the air I'm sure I can account for it somehow. lol

hustler 03-21-2007 11:58 AM

so what's so bad about link? If it will pull time, use a map, eliminate the MAF, datalog, and read a wideband, what else do we need?

Real time tuning? Sucked datalogging, making changes, uploading changes, redatalogging, etc.

VRTSid 03-21-2007 04:06 PM

what about haltech? lots of guys (non miatas) here in socal run them with great success.

If you can get haltech to work, its great. Good luck though.

TwoScoopsofHooah 03-21-2007 07:25 PM

from what I understand using haltech with factory coils is a pita

Overall, it's a great little ECU. I can tell you many of the pitfalls, and as someone noted the factory coils have to go. The Haltech is pretty easy to tune and runs well enough.

I used to be a Haltech dealer, many good installation write-ups exist on the net, some of which were inspired by my method of installing them in parallel with the stock ECU on the Miata.
