EFR 6258, Impellar replacement?
So I managed to break off a blade on the turbine side impeller, while trying to separate the CRHA from the housing. The expensive GammTi one. The housing popped off when I wasn't expecting it to, fell on the impeller, broke. Does anyone know if I can have just the impellar replaced, or it it time for a new super core ? I can call around tomorrow, but im in freak out mode right now.

Call Blouch turbo and ask. They're one of your best bets.
|
will do, thanks
|
GL getting through to them. worst.........phone.........support.........in universe
|
Does anyone know if BorgWarner will do any repairs?
|
I have one, but it lightly grazed a housing once. I can snap pics if interested, but either way, you're going to have to get everything rebalanced.
Just offering in case you needed a stopgap before committing to a supercore. I also happen to have a 6758 supercore on hand. Brand new. |
Take a deep breath and call tomorrow.
However, if it is anything like the gamma-ti turbine wheel, you sir, now have the coolest doorstop. EFR are not rebuildable. |
Welcome to the club.

Call Mike Franke at Southeast Power Systems (813) 623-1551. They are not just a distributor for the Borg Warner line, they are the master distributor for the Borg Warner line and Mike was involved in the development process of the EFR. He's very helpful and friendly.

awesome, thanks man! my options seem to be opening up. none are cheap, but lots of options........so

Turns out that Mike at Southeast Power Systems is basically a turbo god, sent from heaven to help us all. They are in fact- the only Borg Warner approved facility for repair and the ONLY company that BW sells replacement parts to. They can replace just the Impeller. Those gamma-Ti wheels are not cheap, but all said and done its about 40% cheaper than a supercore. I can live with that. They will resemble the entire turbo, hi-speed balance (same exact machine as BW) and set to my preferred clock position. he also said that it will look brand new.
Thanks Miataturbo for the direction. |
News to me. And awesome.
|
Very useful info. Thanks for sharing.
|
Great news! However, are you replacing the compressor or the turbine wheel?? The Gamma ti wheel is the turbine side, so just want to make sure.
Good info sixshooter :) |
|
Need them to work on my shaft.

*edit: unless you were talking about Lexzar. it's really crazy how 2 people have 2 broken BW's within 2 days around here. |

Typo in my first post. It is in fact the turbine wheel, the gamma ti one. The expensive one. The pic Aiden posted is my turbo.
|
|
And the repair price quoted was for the GammaTi wheel, cleaning, balance, gaskets, assembly.
They said they can repair almost anything, within reason. Also sell just a CHRA, so you don't have to buy a supercore with the compressor housing. Center housing is about 800 bucks. Mike also said that he has broken them exactly how I did. Says at room temperature they are very similar to a wine glass. A real bummer though to shit can 600 bucks for a small chip. Turbo Lyfe. |
I thought Aidan was just posting an example and not the actual picture! His posted image never said that was his.
Jeez gaiz. Good luck RMP! Your username is still delivering... |
Maybe I will go that route if the warranty fails. I have a perfectly good turbine wheel. It just isn't connected to anything, can you use that?
|
Thinks..
|
I could, but then you would need one. POR, the GammaTi wheel is 400 bucks.
|
Well mine isn't connected to literally anything, meaning, the shaft broke in two lol. I can't even imagine being able to weld that up and the horrors of seeing it balance

Trim the fat on the thread and make it a sticky for EFR accident victims?
|
Include the thread where the guy let's his wastegate flap open and trashes his turbo
