Default 4-3-1 Manifold?

So the miata engine fires 3rd 4th then 2nd then 1st then 3rd then 4th....

Why not combine the 2nd and 3rd cylinder together while making a tube manifold? 1st and 4th are too far apart however the 2nd and 3rd should make the final connection at the collector simpler.

Discuss?

Imagine the 2nd and 3rd cylinder combining into 1 at the top and then going to the collector as one pipe.

Yup a lot simpler and allows for a much sharper directional flow into the turbine inlet. I'm curious to why no ones doing it.

when we start fitting twin scroll turbos, we can talk about it.

I'm not convince, without such, that there would be any measurable benefits; atbe.

The Begi s6 (one in picture) is a most clever manifold imo. It offers similar turbo placement to the s4 manifold which means ac/ps compatibility but it has updated runner size and thickness which means it should be durable.
A bonus is that it is compact and relatively straight forward to make due to the merged 2 and 3 runners.

It would be even better if the head manifold flange were reversible as then it could be used for top mounts also. It imagine a reversed s6 would be a good match for a long body turbo.

I think not as the turbo mounts at port mid height. (If the merge was the conventional type then yes.)

if you mounted that upside down, the turbo would hit the hood and the DP would work worse than my dick covered in the clap.

The reason you want to mount low is so your DP doesn't look your like mom's inverted vagina.

yeah, it's curable by flipping the manifold back the correct way and and having a DP as straight as Lex Steel's member.

I checked this recently with some old parts.
Down pipe would be fine as turbo would mount forward of manifold centre.
Height is also fine as it mounts at manifold centre.

Not sure my mom will be fine.

try it with that v-band housing. still, shitty 90° right off turbo, into another 90° to mate with exhaust.

what is the net benefit of a top mount?

I give up, so what is the benefit of a top mount? There must be some as most of the cars on here use it.

Disadvantages I found with low mount
-compressor housing usually clashes with the cooling water hose and hose needs to be rerouted. (Not an issue with coolant reroute.)
-compressor inlet ends up at the back of the power steering pump and the air inlet piping and filter placement is usually a struggle. (Not an issue with no PS.)
-the turbo is buried and difficult to inspect/work on if needed.

Disadvantage of top mount
- a longer and potentially more difficult and restrictive downpipe.
- more visible turbo install
