ElCheapo TIAL type BOV

I bought a used BEGI intercooler kit that has the 50mm flange for a TIAL type BOV, and I am looking for a cheap sollution. I found some knockoffs on ebay, but am primarily considering
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

Does anyone have experience with these?

I was hoping to just use the 1" Bosch type valves I have from my 1.8T Jettas since I have a few laying around, but cant since the TIAL flange is already welded on. Short of redoing that section op pipe.

I really hope someone has had some experience with this item. I bought an Ebay type knockoff BOV for my first 1.8T jetta years ago. Well it had an o-ring seal on the piston, which was great to prevent leaks BUT, if the o-ring would happen to fall off, it might just get sucked into the turbo. Don't ask me how I know this but I do. I can also tell you that even such a small o-ring will ruin compressor blades. I wish I had pictures. The turbo sounded like a hair dryer till I replaced it. The vendor was so nice to pull the valve from his site, but pretty much told me "oh that sucks, sorry to hear that". Thats all I got!

I don't want to take chances again, but a $250 Tial BOV is out of my budget right now.

I don't have any personal experience with that valve, but from where I'm sitting, the Chinese have figured out how to do 3 things in the past 5 years or so.

1. Manufacture reasonable quality journal bearing turbos
2. Sneak underage athletes into the olympics
and 3. Build functional bypass valves.

Try using google to find some reviews. They'll probably be fairly polarized, but perhaps you can find enough info to make you feel good about the purchase...or decide to go another route.

The hard part about any "general" review of almost all these chinese parts like turbos or even riceland coilovers is that half the people want to call it crap just because it is "cheap", so its hard to get the answers you are looking for.
I will do some more searching, havn't been lucky yet.
I never realized how crappy the search function is for the forum, its almost easier to search through google to find forum threads! LOL!

What other BOV's are compatible with the 50mm V-band type flange?

Based on everything I've seen/heard about knockoff stuff so far you have exactly 50/50 chance of it being utter crap or working like a champ.

I say you try it and report back.

I LOOOOVE the way Tial bov's sound, and if the ebay stuff sounds as good and works, I'll be getting one as well

I wonder about how boost pressure affects the sound though. JayL has a Tial on his car and it sounds fucking mean, but at a lower boost pressure I doubt the sound would be the same.

Same thing for SSQV valves. When I was running ~6psi it was like a fucking super kazoo. At 12psi it is just a quick chirp (although I removed the whistle tip altogether and my car is pretty much silent now :giggle:)

That is exactly what you want to do, called a site search.

In the search term window type:

site:miataturbo.net

followed by your keywords.

You can substitute our forum name with any other forum you want to specifically search. Works like a charm.

NOTE: I understand you may very well know how to do this, but it's there for posterity.

Vash has one at low boost.
Its not AS badass sounding as JayL's, but still sounds fantastic.

And yes, the sound changes significantly as boost is turned up

are you sure it will fit the flange correctly?

Rallas 06-18-2010 02:26 PM

It looks right and is advertised as a 50mm v-band flange, so it should fit.

This one actually says it fits the Tial flange, just thought I'd share what I found.
