Engine Rebuild, replace oil pump?
Hi
I am reassembling rebuilt short block. Is there a step by step instructions anywhere, I have the service manual, but it does not seem to have any hints etc. What sealants do you use and where? Permatex aviation on the gaskets, and the "right stuff" on the oil pan? Any other advice please? Oil pump does not look that old, is there clearances you can check against? I would like some advice on reusing existing oil pump please.. Thanks Ashley |

Based on what you have typed, you pro ably shouldnt build an engine alone.

There you go, I new you could find somehting smart to say
Should I go back and reacall the twenty or so motors and transmissions I have rebuilt in the past?
I was looking for hints in relation to the Miata 1.6 in particular. But thanks any way. |
if it were me I would just get a new pump to have the piece of mind

Lol, You asked if you can check clearances on an oil pump. And want step by step instructions to build a B series engine. Because they are different to every other twin cam 4 banger out there....

Shows how much you know. Thanks anyway...
1. I have been building engines since 1985.
2. I have never damaged or destroyed any engine I have ever built. 3. Here is a document on checking oil pump clearances. You8 have never heard of doing it is my guess. 4. I do not want step by step instructions, I was looking for step by step Hints, all over this site is step by step how to do this and do that, simple shit with photos. etc. here is an example. http://www.miata.net/garage/rebuild.html But, I really did get what i expected when i posted, I expected to be treated like and idiot and only got shit rather than help or advice...... |
There are clearances you can check against, I don't remember them.
I would replace it honestly, I'd hate worrying about it down the line. I used regular old black RTV and have had no issues |
Me personally, I would never rebuild an engine without replacing what could quite possibly be the most important component.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic here, there just isn't much to say on the subject. A person with your experience should have no problems at all, especially with a copy of the factory service manual in hand. The same pump will perform better on the new engine. As the new engine won't leak so many oil trough its tight tolerances.
Do not start to read about exploding oil pumps. If you do, buy a pump from Boundary. |
