Engine reliability with turbo?

OK so I drove a turbo talon at the end of last summer and it really made me want to put a turbo in my miata. Now I am not wanting to go whole hog yet since I won't have the cash to replace my clutch and diff. So I just want to put a greddy type kit on the car for a bit of extra oomph and fun this summer.

The most important thing is that my car run reliably and that I am able to drive it all summer. Since driving the car stock is a hell of a lot more fun than the car being broken down in the garage.

My car is a 91' stock 1.6 and the motor according to the speedo has about 200,000. Not having driven any other miata to compare with, I think the car runs strong, starts every time, doesn't leak oil, may burn a little.

Will I be okay putting a greddy type kit on it and not break anything as long as I don't drive all crazy?

all things equal (i.e. motor is running right and not in the need of a tuneup) you should have no problem with a GReddy kit. Make sure your cooling system is up to par, pay attention to oil levels, and you should be fine.

Like turbored said..if the motor is in good shape the Greddy kit is a good start. Back in the day when I rolled when andyfloyd he beat the pee out of his car and it ran forever on that kit. I would suggest to do a compression test, cylinder leakage before.
