Evo 8 turbo

I was wondering can i put a Evo 8 turbo in my miata??? the turbo is a 16g with a 9.1 hotside.

KPLAFIN 09-26-2008 06:55 PM

Sure, just find or build a mani/dp that will make it fit.

yajkenji 09-26-2008 06:57 PM

so that all i have to do to make it fit?

KPLAFIN 09-26-2008 06:58 PM

I mean, it's no different than any other turbo, as long as it bolts up to your manifold and the downpipe lines up then you're good...why don't you try searching around a little more before you post anything else.

Pay special attention to the stickyed threads and faqs.

The inlet and outlet footprints don't interchange with any other turbo. You can find flanges at weirtech though.

The Evo turbo is twin scroll. You will want/need to build a twin scroll manifold to make the best use of it. It will suck if you use a conventional 'open' manifold with this turbo.

Though its a pretty awesome turbo, it might be a bit large/laggy for a daily driver
Miata.

And are you sure it's a 9.1 housing? Evo VIIIs had a 9.8 housing.

its a 9.5 if its pre-05, the 05 mr's and the later 9s use a 10.5.....and I agree on the lag: on the evo (2.0) it is about 3-3.5k rpm before it spools, on a miata it will take forever.....

UrbanSoot 09-27-2008 04:09 AM

i think it will spool by around 5500rpm :)

yajkenji 09-27-2008 05:42 AM

will im nor really sure how big is the hotside by i know the turbo if from a evo 8 gsr

18psi 09-27-2008 06:11 AM

see post #6

and unless you found one for free or really cheap, I see absolutely no reason why this is a good idea

JKav 09-27-2008 03:00 PM

The 03-04 Evos had a 9.8 housing. The 05-06 Evos had a 10.5 housing. Overseas, they sold an Evo with an automatic transmission that used a 9.0 housing.

There was never a 9.1 housing.

Don't listen to any of these guys. Just throw it on. Stock injectors, stock computer, and you should advance your timing to about 16*. But if you don't know how to do that don't worry, just leave it alone. Also, I wouldn't worry about an intercooler until you are boosting 20psi, same for a blow-off valve, that's just rice.

Trust me dude, go for it. Your trubo is perfect, these miata motors are really strong, and they don't need anything else to run reliably.

+1, glad I'm not the only one that knows what's up oilstain.

I've had one of these turbos sitting in my garage for months. I think I'm gonna stick it on my tc once my warranty expires in 20k miles. Should get me close to 250 to 300 for a nice highway car.

This board has a lot more trolls than I remember from last year.

well i am intending on using an evo 7 td0516g on my na, i think 5500rpm is a bit bs, moreso 4-4500rpm for a 1600, a bit on the laggy side, but mitsi turbos spool bloody fast imo, and after trying to drive my aw11 mr2 with a tdo4, full boost at 2700rpm with a peaky turbo is the LAST thing i want for drivability
makes cruising sooo touchy, im either fully on boost or fully off

ive got all the flanges ready, im just sussing in my head how to do the twinscroll manifold with equal leangths

and im using a ms2 which turned up in the mail last week

read the stickys if your a noob, it will save you alot of slander and hardship, which is deserved =D

Hmm, I was under the impression that at cruise-position-part-throttle, there would be very little/no boost even on a small/spool-happy turbo.

557795 09-27-2008 10:46 PM

with the td04 and my 4agze conversion, i wish, im either on 11lbs, or im off, im going faster or im slowing down, funny thing is with the standard ecu its more economical for me to race than cruise... probibly because its afm and im venting to atmasphere.... on oppose to at full throttle the afm slams open and uses prebuilt fuel maps to feed the fuel

thus my choice of a much bigger turbo
