Alright guys, what kind of drill bits have you been using to get your 1/2 NPT taps started?

Looking at charts the correct sizes for such are like 23/32 or 45/64. I guess technically the second is more precise. It doesn't really matter since I can't find a source for either of those

Actually...for that Matter I can't find a source for 3/8ths NPT size either at 9/16 or 37/64.

Am I just beings stupid or are the sizes so technically specific that its' dumb?

Once I know this, everything can get drilled up, go together and get back on the road! Plan is to be done for May meet! Still need to get megasquirted in that time but shouldn't be too hard. Already built one...and lost it

mcmaster.com has both listed... between 18-23 bucks each for all the sizes you want roughly.

The last bit is actually some-what of a challenge. as the taps I picked up from the local mom-pop hardware store are 1/2 inch drive.

Thanks guys. I felt really retarded hitting up Irwin and Vermont American...you know standard home-depot suppliers and the likes.

My local ACE hdwr had both these sizes but they were around $18ea. I used a 1/2" bit and the tap did the rest of the work. This was into an al. intercooler.

if you dont have a 1/2 chuck drill by now, you should. the end. you can get them pretty cheap. so what if it plugs in?

incidentally, McMaster-Carr usually ships same day and you'll get it the next day with their standard shipping. it's pretty awesome. for what it's worth, they have a warehouse in NJ and you're closer than we are to that.

I got mine from a local specialty tool store. Paid ~$20 for it I think. The hardest part was finding the proper size drill bit.
