Exactly why would be flattening part of an IC pipe be bad?
 

I'm not talking about squasing it entirely, just enough to fit under the hood going over the top of the radiator. It would obviously disrupt air flow, but would it actually inhibit it that much?

Nothing more than what you stated. Cross sectional area is proportional to the radius squared so little changes in radius/shape can make differences in the cross sectional area/flow, but a small crush shouldn't be a big deal and shouldn't affect flow too much unless you are trying to eke out every last bit of flow/HP or you could just cut the hood...

I also thought about putting silicone elbows at that point...

My "mocking" is almost done. Using silicone elbows. Sorry, that's it for now until I know it works. Letting you know it's possible. There is a good thread where the person notched the hood as well..

Look at it this way. If you do it, you'll have nothing to compare it to know it's worse off. And I don't think it would make enough difference for you to notice anyway. When using any kind of hose in tight quarters, you just need to watch out for rubbing. In this case it's not as cricital since it's not fluid. I cut my hood ribbing (to clear my cam gears and intake manifold) and it works, but it's ugly (as usual). - rob

Any pictures? Actually, with my current duct-taped crossover, gas mileage will go into the toilet if it leaks. It takes a second or so for idle to stablize and there's a super quick dropoff in rpms the minute you back off the gas.

True, you can limp to the next gas station, but post AFM leaks aren't desirable.

I'm starting to like this over the top thing and at 6psi, who cares if there's a small dropoff. And whacking with a rubber mallet--priceless!

Put silicone pipe where the hood will crush it down, then run with and without the hood to see the difference.:robert:

Just make sure that you roll the lips of the holes, or somehow protect the silicon hose from the metal, they are abraisive enough to cut through rad hose...

Yeah, I think I'll run about 100mph with the hood propped open. Well, at least it will be for a few seconds...:) Just kidding, I know what you meant. At 6psi, how much difference am I going see? It's not like I'm going to flatten it entirely. There's got to be a site on stuff like this somewhere.

If all it requires is notching a hood rib, then that would probably be preferrable...

it reallt depends on the size of the tubiñg. between 2 and 2.5 I wouldn't worry about it (and if its smaller thab that you shouldn't be having a problém). you will have some head loss but no biggy.
