exhaust reroute out driver side fender?
Has anybody thought about running there exhaust out of the driver side fender? I have wanted to do it for a while, seems like some cutting and modification of the engine bay may need to be done to make room. My only concern is it running close to the steering rod. I mainly race my car, have no emissions testing or anything like that.

We already had this thread but here are the cliff notes:

route it through the firewall into the interior

I like that idea, but I'd never do it on my car cause I don't like to cut anything up. You're talking about doing it like the way this truck is setup?
|
that's out the passenger, not driver side
OP likes to choke on fumes, hence my suggestion to route it inside. TASTE the afr's bro, no need for wideband |

My friend has it done on his cb7 we go to road Atlanta often and has no issues. I want no resistance from my turbo back. Damn that diesel is sick!!!!! Yea I want something like that as low as I can go behind the driver side front wheel. I'm about do a gt3076 set up I'm going to try to increase spool by any means necessary and I like loud noises and the smell of motor!!!

Damn nobody was supposed to see that. Lol. Keep it on the downlow. Anyways I'm going to get some pics and measurements to see what kind of room I have.

OP - I'll humor you with a semi-serious response: no one that we can remember here has done this, because its loud, obnoxious, smells terrible, and requires a bunch of hacking, as well as won't work on most tracks due to sound regulations.
If you're actually going to do this, please document it thoroughly, even if only for our collective amusement. *edit: also why not just do a straight dump down, or like just run half the downpipe. If I was crazy enough to do something like this, that's what I'd do. |

OP - I hope you don't like racing with your windows down - or with oxygen for that matter... Lack of oxygen to the brain does some funny things at 100 mph. Fuck, I've been ripping 2x6s down on the table saw and my left pinky is still fucking numb from the buzzing, it's hard to type |
The Catfish has the exhaust route directly under the steering and down the side of the car. Yes it's loud, but has very few bends.
I was just at Lucra and they're routing their CBM 700 horsepower V8 engines throughout a teeny tiny Magnaflow muffler the size of a coffee can--really-- and then on to an exhaust with NO baffling directly behind the front wheels. I'm told that it's quieter than their previous setup. |
Just go through the hood.

I know of a very capable DIY turbo Miata in this area that routed his exhaust and wastegate out of the driver's side fender. Works fine, track tested. I'll let him chime in with the details if he so chooses.
Seriously, it's not necessarily an indicator of gayness. No doubt it will be loud. Also if you have plans on tracking it, check with your local HPDEs to see if they allow this. Some organizations don't like the exhaust exiting in front of the driver. BTW not searching exhaustively is a sign of gayness. |
