So we're almost done with the MkTurbo kit, and I'm running into a snag when it comes to the filter.

To keep AC/PS, we ran the hot side out of the fender similar to TurboTim's old build. With how far the turbo sits, we're having issues determining where to put a filter, considering the hot pipe through the fender takes up the space normally used for the filter.


Here's what we're looking at.





One of the options that came up is to just run a TurboGuard, but I've heard lots of conflicting arguments for/against them. This would be the easiest solution.

The next would be to run the filter as the pipe shows in the pics, right behind the radiator, but that would have heat soak problems and is highly regarded as poor placement from what I've read on here in plenty of threads.



Those are the two main options I've got at this moment, and am hoping some of the veterans can help me choose, or provide a better alternative.

May not be ideal but it is what I did.

Hard to tell from your pictures (a top view would help immensely) but, source a 45 degree coupler to come of the compressor inlet, and then install one of these:



You will want to minimize the legs of your 45 degree coupler to as short as possible, to give you the most room. I believe it would fit with that method, and the best part is these filters are flexible and "squishy", so if there is a little interference, fear not. They sell a 15 degree angled version of the dual-layer pod as well, which you might be able to mount directly off the compressor. Just pull a tape and get some spacial constraints. That picture is the 4" x 6" 2.5" ID, no angle. Here is the catalog link:

I would go the 45 degree route, to get the filter as far away from manifold as possible, and giving you some hope of fabbing a heatshield in the future.

Normally I run a 90 off the front of the turbo and put the filter behind the headlight, in your case that unfortunately does not work. Is there room to run a pipe under the IC pipe back towards the back of the engine bay? Pick up air where the stock tube did?

Thanks everyone. I thought about the over/under and into the master cylinder, but wasn't sure about adding that complication.


I ended up ordering both of these K&N filters. One should work. 3.5 in diameter, 20 degree flange angle, and one is 4" and one is 6".

Sometimes. Not an issue, filter is well above the cowl water channel.

Well here's the update. Found this filter thanks to Sokool on here and it fits like a glove.
