FC RX-7 turbo on a Miata?
How would a stock FC RX-7 turbo behave on a Miata? How would spool up time and power output be?
I'm asking because a friend of mine has an extra turbo sitting around he'd be willing to let go for ~$70. |
There are no manifolds that will mate that to your motor unless you have it custom built and isn't that a weird two stage to twin turbo setup too. Either way no one uses them because it's def not an ideal setup. Ever wonder guys with FCs go single turbo, there is a reason?!
If you want cheap then you would be better off going for a DSM turbo setup. They are widely available at low prices on ebay and forums in used form. |
fc's are already single turbo, but i can't answer your question i don't even know what kind of turbo it is
|
The compressor side of the turbo probably would flow about as much as a T25 (think 220rwhp, tops), but the turbine side is way to big for only 1600cc of exhaust gases; it was built for nearly double that.

Sorry, my experience with rotaries is only with FDs i guess. Never been around single turbos FCs, just single turbo conversion FDs. Wonder what that turbo looks like.
Thanks for the info, i posted a little slower than you it appears. That turbo II is sick. |

That turbo is on a 1.3L engine, how is that too big? I've heard mention of the rotary effectively acting like a 2.6L, is that what you're referring to?

and when you consider fuel economy it acts like a 6.2L

Fair enough, that idea is out. Now if only I could find a GT2560R for around $100 I'd be all set...
|
Good luck finding one for $100.
You could get a SR20 T25 for a little more than that in good condition though. |
Actually the v8s get better highway mileage due to gearing. I considered an rx8 at one point except for the little issue of it being as slow as a stock miata and the horrible gas mileage.

I used that little IHI turbo the ford probe uses. One of them was $75 and another was $100 at the junkyards and that came with all the lines including a bucket of hoses I grabbed off the probes IC setup. The IC itself was $20 more and I'm still running that IC but I've upgraded to a T3 now.
Like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/rhb5-...spagenameZWDVW Or maybe this will cram into a Miata. =) http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-89...spagenameZWDVW |
