holy crap that looks amazing. that is such a low stance, looks great!!
|
seems too low, how was the ride handling?
great engine build though, details? |
The color is awesome. I dont know what it is but I just love the color of wet asphalt.
|
its on GAZ coilovers and set as hard and as low as it will go
the ride is firm to say the least and holds the road amazingly it get used on alot of track days with perfectly smooth tarmac the paint is Ford Sierra Cosworth Grey the engine so far is balanced crank matched to a lightend flywheel and aloy crank puley wiseco 9:1 pistons carrillo rods refaced, presure tested, new valves, ground lapped and 3 angled ferrea titanium valve springs obx stage 2 cams 92 supra turbo 430cc injectors hks t25 turbo hks fcon ecu hks evc6 boost controller twin feed fuel rail sard fuel pressure reg (wen i fit it) rx7 fuel pump |
So many nice things and then I read OBX Cams. :(
|
y wats so bad with them
|
I dont know whats bad with them, but the company doesnt have a reputation associated with quality. At least that is the impression I have gotten from people on this forum that have used or know people who have used OBX products.
What do those cams give you anyway? More overlap? |
yer theyll hold the valves open for longer it was the only cams available to me in the uk
a few people i know have used them on other makes of cars turbo and non turbo and they seem to be ok if i have any problems i will let you all know ill hope for the best lol to be honest looking at them the quality and machining looks spot on and the fit was perfect and the turn over in the journals really smooth and free |
not to sound too clubroadster, but what is that front lip?
|
people asked me that before i made it myself i made a mould from a mgzr bumper a mx5 bumper and alot of fibreglass and then a bodyshop finished it off for me
so its a one off sorry |
damn that is slick man very nice
|
I would have gone with a slightly bigger turbo but it looks good! Wish I had the time/money/skills to start building a motor.
|
which version of the f-con are you using?
|
love the stance... and have to say that thing has more silacone than a stripper!. And is that a alltrac in the background with rally lights?
|
looks like an rx-7 to me.
|
It's so nice and clean at the exhaust side when RHD. Looks great!
|
very nice!
|
i love the car man, i really like the color, i regret not going a few shades darker on mine, i will next time around though, right now i have the titanium metalic
nice build on the motor though cams, i was under the impression that turbo cars like less duration and more lift, not the other way around...are you sure about those cams? if you know something i dont, please educate me! |
dayum!!!! i dont even like those metal wings, but it actually "fits" the car. sick car man
|
I might have missed it in your post but what turbo manifold is that? It's nice.
|
Got a question, how come to built and 1.6 over say building a 1.8???
DAMN you for having such a clean and beautiful NA miata. |
love the car man......what spoiler is that? it flows nicely with the car
|
Almost looks like a HKS or SSautochrome?
|
the manifold is an hks unit, as most of his kit was from hks.
|
thanks for all your comments
it was a hks kit with a fcon mini but i upgraded to a full hks fcon v pro very simple to fit and easily mapped the car with the white fog lights in the bumper is a friends rover mgzr were i work we import the eunos roadsters from japan we have turbod and supercharged both 1.6 and 1.8 and the 1.6's seem to take the strain a little more and have found less problems we have had a ouple of heads crack on the 1.8 its taken a hell of alot of pennies to get to this it started out life as a red jap eunos that had been paint silver o tidy it up and then crashed (not by me) and i bought it cheap avin only seen a few uk miles straightend it out and fitted a hks turbo with piggy back ecu 1.8 injectors, rx7 fuel pump, diy dual feed fuel rail adj. fuel pres reg a intercooler and a oilcooler and then got used as a track car with myself and four other mechanics for were i work thrashing the pants off it we was very impressed to say the least i then decided to use it as a road car and as the majority of my friends had 'pretty' looking cars i thought i best meet the standard we now have fleet of mx5's 1.8 turbo with t28 550cc injectors and a hydra nemsis 1.8 supercharged DTA ecu 1.6 hks turbo with a intercooler and 1.8 injectors and pigy bk my 1.6 turbo and a half built v8 with fds3 rx7 subframes suspension and brakes a ford t5 gearbox (very slow project) |
maybe i missed it, but what manifold is that?
|
hks cast manifold

So it is water cooled too? Where did you get the lines for the water and oil for the turbo? Where did you get the tubing for the air intake going to the turbo? You seem to have a ton more room in your car than mine, and I have a 96. Weird. I love the setup though.
|
Also, did you polish the head yourself? If so how did you go about it exactly?
|
the fcon mini had a harnes then hard wired in with the basic hks kit an intercooler and 1.8 injectos i got about 170 - 180bhp i also adjusted the timing (trail and error to be honest with the timing just advanced it until it pinked underload and then backed it off accordingly had to be retarded more on a hot trackday etc)
the only idle isues i had/have is because of the dump valve obviously on idle it pulls a vacume thus pulling the dump valve open and creating a air leak i have since bought a HKS ssqv which solves this problem other than that i couldn't fault it and to say the thrashing it had it lasted well yes the turbo is watercooled the pipes have compression fitting on one end and banjo's on the other i had them made up by a place not to far away from were i live that specalise in hoses they also made the oil return pipe and oil feed pipe the oil feed is taken from the back of the block (didn't take a pick of it fitted sorry) all the heater hoses, inlet manifold hoses(not in pics), upper and lower water hoses were bought as a full set from www.mx5parts.co.uk all the rest of the silicone hose, is from company called venair and are very good quality www.venairsport.co.uk yes i polished the rocker cover myself i spent alot of time with wet and dry sand paper and then polished it on a industrial buffing machine i dont really like it and am going to cut the cambelt cover off it and have it painted alot of things have been removed from the engine bay washer bottle is in the boot most of the wiring has been chopped or re-routed down the inner wings alot of little brackets etc that aren't used have been removed the carcoal filter (thing that condenses fuel vapour and returns to tank) has been removed power steering has been removed and fitted with a quick rack aircon has been removed including the part within the heater matrix the clucth pipe has been shortend to just a braided flexi (makes a hell of a diffence and feels very nice) the expansion tank has been removed just keep a eye on the water level after a very long run it leaves a very very smal puddle very efficent cooling system the front panel conecting the chassi legs together has been cut out and the legs welded up as i have braced it accros the antiroll bar, subframe and have a strut brace from side to side and to bulk head (will only become a problem if i have a shunt) |
im a bit lost in translation, lol
when you say chassis leg, what do you mean... and whats a shunt? i am also interested in your clutch line, i have access to a hydraulic shop that will build anything to spec...how is it different, less pedal effort, less travle, etc.-pics would be golden |
uuuugh......nice car. reminds me of how much of a POS mine is. i suck.:sad2:

its probably slighty diffrent being right hand drive but if on a uk/jap mx5/eunos the mastercylinder is at the right side of the car (inlet manifold side) and it has a steel pipe that runs with the brake pipe to the left side(exhaust manifold side) and then a flexi of the gtop of the gearbos back to the right side then a steel pipe in the shape of a coil
i have removed all of this and replaced it with one single peice of stainless steel braided hose the pedal feels alot more resposive hard to explain to be honest and it makes everything a bit more tidy and a bit of shinny the clucth pipe isnt hydraullic fittings i used goodrich brake 600 series compression fitting for this with the 600 series pipe i also plan to make every brake pipe from the master cylinder out of this as well ill take a couple of picks tomorrow when im at work a shunt is a crash lol the car satrted out life as a front damaged car so i fitted a new slam panel (were the bonnet catch fixes too) and made a front panel out of some box section but have since removed this and capped the chassi legs(see pic) by doin this i weakened it but i didnt want to put anything in its palce so to stop the chassi legs flapping in the wind so to speak i have made a bar the bolts through the chassi legs just above were the anti roll bar bolts on (again i will take some picks) Attachment 214080 |
so i fitted a new slam panel (were the bonnet catch fixes too) Here we would say you installed a "new radiator support (where the hood latch attaches)" I'm loving that color, btw. |
thanks for clearifying it...
the bar that bolts to above the sway bar that you made, i think racing beat sells one, its called a sway bar brace, it made a pretty big difference in my car, i was impressed... |
Geez, youve got fucking miles of space in that engine bay. Im jealous.

Hi,
I am very interested in your car and would like to pick your brain as you seem to be very nowligable from your posts and spec of car. I have a 996 which I have taken on the track a few times and a friend of mine took me out in his MX5 and showed me what proper fun was ,in his MX5. I was so impressed with the fun you could have, with out risking lots of money (I really couldn't afford to crash the Porka) so I bought an MX5 track day car last year (£800). This has been great on Anglesey (small bendy track) but felt it was a little bit too under powed for Oulton Park, so looked into turbo'ing the MX5. In the process of this I came across a 1991 1.6 with a Greddy Turbo (£1640) on it and 63Km on the clock (allegedly). The car also has a 'HKS AIC Si Additional Injector Controller' and 5th injector, but these are currently not connected. My plan is to make a usable robust track car and fit an intercooler, BOV and oil cooler to my car and connect the Add Inj Controller and 5th inj & set it up on the rolling road. Questions are:- 1) Where do you live ? Is there a rolling road tuner that you can recommend in Merseyside ? 2) Do you know anything I need to look out for when connecting my Add Inj controller ? 3) Have you put a larger rad on your car ? 4) Did you suffer from over heating on trackdays as I know the abuse it gets on these days? 5) which intercooler did you use ? I'm trying to keep costs to a minimuim, but understand that it will be better to set the car up properly before I track it, to save it going bang on the track ! Which I really don't want. Any help would be greatfully received, thanks .....................Adam |
