Finally got a Manifold done

Well, I know I haven't been on here much lately. But I finally finished up a 1.6L manifold (minus the wg flange) that I started forever ago. Thought I would see what you guys thought of it. They are just from my phone, so not as hq as I would like. Hopefully I can get a better pic

You dont think it would have been cheaper(factoring in time, money, effort) to just buy a pre-made one from JGS?

Seems like a waste of time building a design that could have been purchased. Dont get me wrong, it looks awesome and congratulations. But I just dont get the point in making a manifold identical to one that is already on the market.

Also, you need relief cuts.

JGS kits are mild steel. You still need to weld one up, unless you wait two weeks and pay them $100 to do 80% of it.....

Looks like the flange is going to be pointed downward off #3???

TurboTim 12-09-2008 04:37 PM

looks good to me.

What are the pipes? They doesn't look like the ruff finish of the usual sch pipes. I'd say you'll have trouble to bolt some of the nut. Not enough clearance between some of the welds and the holes

No need for bracing or relief cuts?

What kind of phone too? Resolution aside the lens seems pretty good.

The pipes look like normal SCH that has been hit with a scotchbrite disc or sanding disc on a die grinder. I wouldn't relief cut this flange, pretty sure ETD recommends against it because they only saw failures in the relief cut manifolds and not the solid flange ones.

I give you Prop's. Looks good! Now Turbo IT! Ha Ha HA!

Good Luck! Dude!

I noticed that too, what turbo is this for? Looks like a DP might be difficult to route.

Is JGS cheaper..no not really. I made the head flange, and bought the rest, and all the tubing is 304SS. As for relief cuts/bracing, the one on my car doesn't have any and I haven't had any trouble in the several years i've been driving it.

The pipes are sch 10 stainless that have had a little brightening up. Nothing special.

The phone is a Palm Centro. It actually turned out a lot better than what I expected.

Thanks for the props, but here is where things get ugly. Since I have a 1.8L, I had never really paid attention to the 1.6L, so somehow I screwed up and welded the flange on upside down :vash:. I guess someone could try and use it as is, but it was intended to be a top mount just like on my 1.8. So I guess we'll just see. I was planning on putting it up for sale as soon as I get a wg flange welded on, but now I need to figure out whether to fix or leave it alone. If it just won't work I'll plug the holes and redrill correctly. 1.6L guys chime in here. Thanks for the head up!

...and redrill correctly.
probably best bet. who knows, it might fit without any issue.
