first post, first question, fitment, tuning
Ok guys, I am an ex miata owner, and my buddy who doesnt ever get on forums, is wanting to boost his 01 miata.
First question, I have a close friend who has a DIY fabbed kit from his NA 1.8. I was searching and didnt really find an answer, but would his manifold bolt up to the NB 1.8 head? I am trying to help my buddy with the NB get a decent DIY turbo kit. the kit we are intersted is from the above NA 1.8 saab t3 saab i/c egay manifold that is reinforced, turboxs bov, and I know he has some flyinmiata tuning stuff, which I know 100% sure wont work on the NB, so I am wondering what is the best alternative for tuning a nb, for low boost (talking 8-10psi) not trying to get anything crazy. thats what i love about the na 1.8s you can get a voodoo box and pretty much call it a day. |
Biggest issue is ECU. Not a lot of low budget options. Adaptronic is about the only ECU option that is PnP for under $1000. It is what I used on my complete DIY NB. I made my own mani and the flanges at least are common across the 1.8 lines. Not sure on NA fitment issues other than the flanges will work. Downpipes are NA/NB specific as well.
Welcome to the forum! |
There are one or two guys running standalone MS on their NB's I think, but I don't see much of them anymore. I know there are some workarounds that aren't necessary on the NAs, but apparently it can be done.

You cant get MS to run a clean idle with the 01-05 because of VICS/VVT. It will work, but only WITH work.
Run Bell's Zoom3 box which is basically a bipes and voodoo box in one for the price of MSPNP. Sure its not a standalone, but neither is xede and people work with that. |
Parallel install and Emanage Blue or Ultimate.
My buddy has a DIY boosted 2001 dynod at 230whp t 11 psi. It can be done cheaply, but it will take lots of work. |
