first run diy t25

I got the exhaust clamp in that bolts the dp to the tranny bellhousing bracket. If finally came in at the dealer today. So i welded in extensions to fit my 2.5" downpipe and hit the road.

i need to do a better job of bleeding the front brakes cause that was a little sketchy today . i didnt' stay in it long because of that, but the little t25 kicks in very low in the rpm range and pulls nice. (first boosted miata i was ever in) I love it compared to the stock motor.

a/f ratio with the 12:1 vortech and running 6psi is very rich once boost kicks in to say the least. the little thing that i took for granted with turbo is that if you get up to speed normally, and don't press the pedal too much, you can get there without building boost. my innovate says stoich when i'm just cruising, but by the time i'm at full boost it's pegged at 11:1 a/f, never got it to blink out at 10:1 overly rich yet, so i'm under the assumption that with my stock fuel pump, stock injectors, and the boost i'm running, i get 11:1 in full boost. i'll have to do some data logs to closely look at the a/f though.

all i have to yet is some clean heat shielding and a vent in the hood above the turbo.

THANKS TO EVERYONE ON THESE BOARDS THAT HELPED ME GET TO THIS POINT. I HAVE LEARNED ALOT FROM AND GREATLY APPRECIATE EVERYONE'S HELP.....

CORKY, BRAINEACK, MAGNA, SAVINGTON, SAMNAVY, ANDYFLOYD.....JUST TO MENTION A FEW

Yea those guys are awesome, I really have no words to describe how awesome they all are to stick around and help. Im sure its not easy dealing with recurring questions but they do it, and god love them for it.

Btw, I think this sub forum should be called "Turbocharge your miata in 82 posts or less"

82 because thats how many you have at the time you made this thread.

WooHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post Pics!

Just two things to make sure about.
You did roll back your timing, and you are using the highest octane available, right?

s10383 07-26-2007 05:20 AM

I'll get some pics up today. Its dark right now so it will be a few hours.
LOL yeah, I definitely rolled back the timing. I set that before I even parked the car to start the turbo project. Took me about a day all said and done to set the timing because my damn balancer pulley spun around the center piece. Had to use a dial inidcator, get TDC on #1 down to the thousandth and remark the balancer pulley. :bigtu: and of course, the only reason i was led to suspect the balancer pulley was because of the help i received on the forum!!!! :bigtu:

good job when you are ready for a new harmonic balancer they are like 93 bucks. also be carefull with the one you have mine liked to dance around as i tried to set the timming. for a litle while i atrributed this to poor vac/idle but now that i have a new one i can see it was the pullet slipping dynamically all along. Good times. Also i turboed before i got here does that count :p

there's nothing like your first boost! now the addiction begins...

s10383 07-26-2007 10:37 PM

thanks! just uploaded some semi-final pics from today. still have to do some nice heatshielding, get ss lines for the water lines, and do a vent on the hood above the turbo.

Where did you get the manifold and DP? Where does your distrib block get its oil feed? Where did you get the throttle body inlet pipe and the turbo inlet pipe?

s10383 07-27-2007 08:48 AM

The manifold and dp are the ebay ones that everyone warns you about (works for me, i have a welder). They only accept dsm turbos (garetts have different flanges everywhere). I made all of the piping. I welded up the external wastegate. The dist. block gets it's oil feed from the standard place on the 1.6's (driver side, about half way down towards the rear of the block). Brain's faq has a nice pic of the oil supply.
