fit large turbo = surge?
iam aiming for 270whp and need a turbo big enough to make 270whp without being too big to create compressor surge low in the rev range. any one have a turbo in mind i will be using my car at the race track.
other thing is does an ebc allow you to fit a larger turbo so that you dont create too much boost at too low in the rev range which would cause surge? |
You want to not surge in the low end but you don't want to make boost in the low end?
Also, can you be any more vague? I'm aiming for 270hp what turbo do I need? HURR DURR Also, have you heard of the search function? Also, have you heard of the "build threads" section? Also......Ah hell I'm not even going to waste my time.. |

yes i have read half of the build threads and dyno sheets but havent found one yet with the horsepower i want to make so iam not sure what turbo is best suited.
|
You haven't seen any builds/dyno's here with 270 hp?

check the threads by Savington. in one of his previous setups he was making ~270 iirc.
basically get a 2871R with the 0.86ar hotside to flow mass amounts and you will be good. i have that setup on my 1.6L and im going to do a 3rd gear pull later today to get a log of where my turbo actually hits boost. (around 3800-4000) |
You're trying to make the dose, huh? :squint:
For 270 get a 2860. I hope you have an engine that will make this power for more than 5 minutes. A blow off valve will keep you from compressor surge. Please stop hanging out with your dose friends |

ok thanks for the replys. so what difference does a larger .86 mean over the .64 ar does a larger ar make it longer and harder to spool iam unsure?

arguably the .86 is overkill for sub 300 whp. i have the 2876 .64 and it's amazing at 250 rwhp (relatively low boost on my stock motor)

Matt, I bet the 76mm turbine on your setup combined with low boost and "low" torque makes the .64 housing work. With a 71mm turbine and anything beyond 250wtq, the .86 is a must-have.

savingtowne, wanna swap chras and comp hsgs for a while? I'm curious.

So much angry bitterness, wow.
You know, I bet if you include this info in that sticky these questions wouldn't get asked as often anymore. It's one of the few things I -DIDN'T- see there. (the A/R comparison, that is.) |

i have never ran a 0.64 housing.
if i can get 25 people to donate $10 i will dyno the 2 housings back to back. |
