FM Intercooler Piping.
 

Called up FM today to order some piping and was wondering if the silcone piping is going to fit. Is there anyone using it on a homebrew kit. I currently have a SR20 t25 turbo with a BEGI manifold and DP. It looks like it will work just fine. Also for information I have a 99. Any help or if anyone has this kit that wants to chime in it would be great.

As long as the compressor outlet is clocked in the correct direction and it has the proper outlet you should be fine. Typically those turbos come with a 2- or 3-bolt style outlet, if your turbo is like that, there are adapters you can buy that bolt into place and allow the piping to clamp straight to it.

Ok I have the cast manifold. Not sure how much that makes a diffrence.

That manifold is fine. The FM cast, BEGi cast, and old skool BEGi/FM manifold all locate the turbo in the same place.

Should be fine. I know on mine where the pipe goes from turbo to inter cooler it tweaked the inter cooler back a bit. I think it was pushed up against the power steering lines wrong. Calling FM I'm the only one with the issue. If you hooked it all up and looked down at the inter cooler from above it was pulled toward the radiator on the driver side. I now have no P/S but haven't put it all back together. With P/S it was a bit tight of a fit. However, I'm the only one who had the issue I know of.

Ha! That's the same answer I always get when I call FM, "oh, we've never seen that problem before."

Yes, the IC hoses will move the IC around. I did some ghetto lower brackets to hold the IC to the rad. Problem solved.

How much did they quote you for just the piping? They are all on vacation right now so I can't ask them.

I feel too lazy to build my own piping.

It's expensive. I've got the piece that goes from the IC outlet up into the bottom of the aluminum section they use for their BOV and it was around $100 by itself. I did not buy their aluminum section. It didn't really fit with all the AC lines on my NB1 but seems to be fine for NAs and NB2s. Now it sits in my garage in the "stupid pile of parts I should not have purchased" and mocks me.

That jives with what they quoted me over the phone. Man up and go to Siliconeintakes.com and order up the 90° sections, straights and all the T-bolt clamps you'll ever need for like $100. Order more than you need, keep it clean and they will take returns. You can probably find stuff cheaper than SI but its a decent 1 stop shop and they ship fast.

$400+ Goood Lawd thats alot of money. The whole kit with the intercooler is only like 600 bux. meh.

All I am realy worried about is the BOV, IAT and the idle vacuum nipples and welding them on, I have a mig so I cant do aluminum. Maybe do a SS or straight steel section there and the rest aluminum.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking smack about FM. They make and sell high quality well thought out products. This just happens to be one that you can easily DIY for a fraction of the cost. Sure you'll have more points of failure, but it really comes down to your budget, and what you are willing to spend to be lazy.

Like any company FM can be good or bad, depends on the day. Mostly good though with me and they are a company that needs to make moneys. I get it.

I made a DP brace because I didn't feel like paying 36 dollars for theirs but was thinking of buying intercooler pipes from them for 400 dollars. I might have some backwards thinking sometimes.

Actualy its $770. I figured that they would use a non-china semi good intercooler that was at least 400-600 dollars so the piping might be not horribly expensive. If it is over $250 then its just not worth it as I have most of the clamps and couplers adn 2.5 inch piping. Just need a few 2.25 inch pipes and some welding of a few bungs and I should be set.

I got the coldside piece in a trade a few years back. I love it, to say the least.

I've really been thinking about getting the hotside piece due my extremely tight spacing issues with my basketball and a/c. I emailed FM about the hotside piece and they quoted me just over 100 bucks. I jumped on dat shizzle.

By the Hotside do you mean the whole outlet to IC pipe? If you say it's around 100bux that just might be worth it.

Anyway I will give them a call when they are less lazy and aren't on vacation to see how much it is.

I will mock everything up this weekend (motor still needs to go in the car) and see what I actualy need and price it out.

Hotside = turbo to intercooler. So, yes. It's one piece which I would prefer given my clearance issues and the fact that the worst thing in life if trying to fix blown intercooler pipes on the side of the road.

I'm going to have a 45* pipe welded onto my holset so it will mimic the standard outlet of a t58/t28 on a beig/fm manifold.

Yeah, hence my attraction to you their piping. For some reason I thought the hot side was two piece but was incorrect. So that looks even better and better.

Well, to be fair, most of the problems that they've seen before they've fixed. :)
