How much power can the 1.6 make on stock internals, reliably?

The weak diff aside, I was just wondering how big of a difference there would be between similarly prepared 1.6 and 1.8's. I don't really know anything about the 1.6 motors but I believe they have the same rods and compression ratio?

i have seen some 1.6L miatas run close to 300 at the fly but i dont know how long that will last for them. i would make sure to have a good headgasket and arp headstuds and check if your pistons are still in good shape IMO

Ya, but the smaller bore and lighter pistons mean you can spin them a little harder. The most I have seen to date was 325 RWHP on a junkyard motor.

Make and make reliably are two different things. All else equal you'll make more with a 1.8 and have quicker spool. I've had both with 2560s and the 1.8 is better in boost transition and spool. It's not like the 1.6 has better technology to make up for the displacement disparity.

agreed i never understood why people would say 1.6's make more power or last longer.
