forged internals in!!! still smoking

just got my car back and its lightly smoking white smoke from the tail pipe...
just completely rebuilt with pistons rods and other stuff....
is this normal after the motor was rebuilt??
btw it was smoking a lot when i brought it to be rebuilt... maybe oil still left over???
thanks

see if it's still smoking after it's been broken in, and the rings have seated.

jasono718 04-03-2007 05:51 PM

very good point!!
thanks

neogenesis2004 04-03-2007 05:53 PM

rings seat in a matter of minutes :(

jasono718 04-03-2007 06:06 PM

how long does it take for the motor to properly break in???
should i stay out of boost during this period???
how long until it stops smoking???

did you have just bottem end work? head could need attention

Braineack 04-03-2007 06:40 PM

what turbo,? how's the pcv setup? drain line & feed setup?

neogenesis2004 04-03-2007 06:40 PM

My guess is that the head isnt sealing. Did the place that rebuilt it shave the head?

small 16g... going back to a big 16g after the problems go away...
pcv valve just has a little filter on it
drain line is a -10an feed is either a -8am or -6an but im not to sure

I say at least a few thousand miles, neogen says a few minutes. I'd recommend treating it just like a brand new car (for the same reason). Drive like a granny for a couple thousand miles, little to no boost. You say it's smoking lightly, that it's light is a good sign.

Basically, drive it like it isn't warmed up yet.

neogenesis2004 04-03-2007 07:25 PM

This is where we will disagree then :dunno:

jasono718 04-03-2007 07:25 PM

ive already put it over 5k on boost... wont do that again
a few thousand miles will probally take me about 2 years... i only drive a few miles a week..nyc sucks for driving... probally will go on road trips this summer to put on some more miles...

kotomile 04-03-2007 07:26 PM

No problem, I'm not looking to argue. I say tomato you say tomato.

jasono718 04-03-2007 07:27 PM

is it bad to run with one of the little filters on the pcv valve???
i see most people run the line towards the turbo....

petersdd 04-03-2007 07:33 PM

could be bad turbo seals, oil pouring into the exhaust housing will create white smoke, if your rings wernt seating it would be blue, and its doubtful that you have a BHG, but smell the smoke, if its sweet it will be Headgasket

brand new cometic head gasket installed two days ago... only drove the car 5 miles and it was lightly smoking... does it have anything to do with the filter on the pcv valve???

neogenesis2004 04-03-2007 07:38 PM

you are talking about the breather not the pcv it sounds like. The pcv is the port by the IM, the breather is at the front near the intake (exhaust side).

jasono718 04-03-2007 07:38 PM

yeah i think thats it....

jasono718 04-03-2007 07:39 PM

on the valve cover??
