Garrett GT2560R small difference (1-1 vs 1-2)

Good morning guys,
I've been reading for a long time and I'm currently collecting all the stuff necessary to make the conversion from NA to FI. Here it comes the turbo, from the begining I understood that the GT2560R was the one that could do the best job in order to accomplish my targets. Right now, I've an offer from a guy that doesn't know exactly which T28 it is, The only difference I've been able to notice is that the compressor says: GARRETT A/R60 M24 O1-1. That last reference is what I don't know exactly what they mean, I've seen others which say O1-2. Does someone know what is the difference? Is that the difference between the journal and ball bearing? I haven't find the difference, even looking at 240sxforums link (Stock T25/28 Turbo Specs - Nissan 240SX Forums). I've asked and there isn't any metal sheet in the turbo to see the reference. Thank you very much, if you could see something in the pictures which isn't in good shape let me know, I would be very appreciated. Marc |
It looks like a 2560 of some description
It's not a T28 turbine it's the quicker spooling T25 11 blade version Can you take a picture of the turbine shaft through the oil drain It definitely a Nissan fitted turbo so you'll need the adaptors for compressor inlet and outlet |

It will be a pain in the ass to find the adaptors or is something usual that many miata turboed owners do? I'll try to upload a picture ASAP the owner sends it to me. |

i meant Ni, not Ti.
the divider on the outlet is only on the 2860 GTR turbos for the RB26DETT, iirc. Part number 707160-5 not this 2560, and not for the SR20. |

It's hilarious I had to argue with somebody over PM on this topic.
On a more related note, OP that's an S14 T28. Same size as a 2560 and the S15 T28, but single ball bearing, lacks the divider between the wastegate and turbine, and no fancy materials. |
Why do nissan guys call them t28s and not GT28Rs? that's a little misleading and probably where some confusion lies.
a GT28R = a GT2560R, just the early naming convention. I think that would more accurately describe it. The GT28RS having the dual ball bearings at the time. a T28 is typically non-ball bearing, Non GT series. A T28 T28 is typically a T25 turbo upgraded to a T3 compressor wheel/housing. A T28 would convert over to a GT2860. A T25 would convert over to a GT2560. the difference mainly being the size of the turbine wheel, both using 60 compressor wheels. tl;dr. Kramer, it's a 2560. ive seriously forgotten too much of this stuff to really care anymore |

I don't know which ones are from the oil & water lines. Hope them help. So I've to assume that it's a GT2560R Journal Bearing from an S14? PD: I guess that BrilloHeadBen had reason, I actually drift my miata! :giggle: |
Nope, it's a single ball bearing. See that little restrictor in the oil inlet? Ball bearing CHRA's don't like high oil pressure, and will leak.
Does my turbo require an oil restrictor | Turbobygarrett *edit* Since you didn't know, that inlet is the top oil inlet, with the outlet being on the other side of the CHRA. Your water inlet and outlet are 90* from the oil. |
