Garrett TB0363 turbo

I need some assistance. I have this: Used Garrett TB0363 Turbocharger (85-87 Volvo 740 Watercooled 2.3L - Spooled Motorsports)

I need to know some additional info like: how much boost; will it be too small for my project?

Can anyone help me?

Eric; do you have any idea?

Thanks

Zabac 02-19-2009 11:23 AM

Bad Link Rafa. haha

here you go

I think it is too small for what your motor will be capable of.

RotorNutFD3S 02-19-2009 11:34 AM

Agreed. I know your goals have to be higher than what that turbo is capable of doing. That's smaller than a GT2554R.

Thanks Dan. I thought so.

BTW, I found this: http://www.turbointernational.com/im...og-Garrett.pdf

Really Eric?

That thing is smaller than a 2554?

Time to sell.

Thanks

RotorNutFD3S 02-19-2009 11:58 AM

It's definitely smaller in size. However, the GT2554R has about the same horsepower efficiency. Let's just say for the sake of argument that they're equivalent turbos. You'll still probably be looking for a larger turbo soon. :)

Rafa- just to put a bug out there. I will have my turbo for sale here very shortly. I rebuilt it last May, and I can confidently say it may have 4000 miles on it.

T3/4 T04E compressor w/.60 outlet and a .48 AR turbine. I need to measure the wheels so I am not sure of the trim, but it looks like this one on the left.

Hey 96; the first thing I need is your name. I'm getting tired of calling you 96! :giggle:

I had a T3/T4 chinacharger installed in mine. The problem was that I was seeing full boost at around 4,200 rpms. I'm rebuilding my engine now (and I also plan on buying Dan's 3" exhaust) so I'm curious to see at what RPMs I'll see boost now.

I bought a book on porting and shrouding heads following Pat's advice. I plan on buying a 99/01 head and see what happens.

I guess I can sum up what I'm trying to find out by saying the following: I'm looking for a T3 that will behave similar to a T2871. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Meant physically. Read #6. Clarified there.

HA! My name is Stacy. Don't fag my name up by putting an i or e in it, ok?

Your issue is the same as my current issue with boost. I was hitting FB at 4200-4400rpms. However, I was able to figure out the problem with the EBC, which I am ashamed to say, but will say it anyway. My down pipe was loose from the turbine. The nuts were completely loose. Once I tightened everything up, I did another run and hit 189kpa at 3900 rpms before it slammed into overboost protection. So now I have the EBC worked out, I just need to tune it. I am going to get a different T3 this Saturday and try it out to see if there is any difference. If not then I will probably still put the T/4 up for sale. The turbine is a Garrett, the compressor housing doesn't have any description on it at all.

Anyway, I did some searches on here yesterday for fasteners to see what the options were. I need to resolve that issue either way.

:fawk:.

Rafa, if you buy that turbo, you should be able to fashion the coldside onto your existing turbo. This saves you the hassle of dealing with the volvo turbine housing.

That link to Arkmage's dyno run is perfect. Rafa, what's your goal at the moment?

Actually Scott; I already bought it and have it here. You were the one who suggested that the turbine was too small when someone else put it up for sale on the classifieds.

BTW, thanks for that suggestion. If I understand you clearly: I could use my current T3/T4 turbine combined with this compressor for a great combo. Is that right? If so, I'll start on that immediately.

Thanks :)

I'm about to build my engine with the Supertech piston and rod combo and I'd like to get around 275whp while seeing full boost at around 3500 RPMs.

I'd like to stay at around 14/15 psi of boost if possible. I'm also going to install the WI kit but only to work from 12psi up.

Sounds like a GT2560 would be the right turbo for your goals. But it would be T2 based not T3. I'm guessing you're looking for T3 based turbos only? For you power goal of 275whp, a GT2560 would be perfect IMO. And with WI, you could push it to probably 340whp or so if you ever wanted more.

Thanks again for the fuel pump Rafa. Had a few small issues with the car and I've been getting them ironed out. Might get that pump in over the weekend though. :bigtu:

show me where I would ever say a T3 turbine would be too small...I run a T3 on my 1.6L, and I'm happy with it and have no desire to move down to a GT28 or GT25 sized turbine.

Think of T3s as modular systems. A T3/T4 is just a T3 turbine and CHRA with a T4 compressor wheel and housing attached. You should be bale to remove the compressor housing, compressor wheel and back plate from the CHRA and swap it for the smaller tree T3 50 trim wheel and parts. You'll end up with a T3 50 trim.

If your current t3/t4 has a .63 A/R or greater than a Stage I turbine wheel, then I'd consider using the new T3 as is, but you'll have to take care of the turbine housing flanges.

i just picked up that same turbo. are you keeping it?
