Godspeed turbo selection help
Been searching for 3-4 days now trying to get my answer before i make a thread.. but i still need some help. I plan to order a turbo soon so i can start making my exhaust mani.
Heres the plan, quick and dirty (:giggle:): head: mild head work MSM intake cam new valvetrain (prob supertech, not going over) COPs custom exhaust mani and IM (still deciding if i want a short or longer tubular turbo mani, also feel free to chime in.) block: built (.40 over) boundry OP blah blah you know the deal down there. Here's what i am looking for: 350-375 hp e85 spool @ the latest by 4-4.2k street car & some track (someones gotta show up these cocky evo drivers around here, lol) Here are the ones i cant decide between. (ive been reading up about trim and a/r as much as i can to get a better understanding about how its measured and i guess you could say im still kinda lost...:loser:) I chose to go with godspeed b/c of the increasing positive things people have said about them, as well as (journal bearing) china chargers. So if you could, can you please help a brother out... any help is appreciated! T3/60-1 TURBO CHARGER .63ar( BIG SHAFT) Compressor trim: .70ar Compressor Wheel diameter: 56.83/ 74.96 Turbine Wheel diameter: 61.37 /69.86 Exhaust Trim: .63ar Turbine flange type : T3 flange T3T4 turbo .50ar (quick spool) Compressor trim: .50 Compressor Wheel diameter: 53.87 / 76.58 Turbine Wheel diameter: 56.41 / 64.93 Exhaust Trim: .50 Turbine flange type : T3 flange gt35 turbo charger .63ar Compressor trim: .70 ar Compressor Wheel diameter: 57.36 /81.87 Turbine wheel diameter : 57.50 /73.60 Exhaust trim: .63ar (although i believe from wat ive read this turbo will be too big and laggy for my goals) not 100% sure on this bad boy yet. i read somewhere (dont remember) that turbos with small turbines and large compressors have problems spooling... ive also been reading some interesting things about .48 a/r's on miatas.... T66 turbo charger .48ar Compressor trim: .70 ar Compressor wheel diameter: 65.55 /82.00 Turbine wheel diameter: 45.74 / 62.86 Exhaust Trim: .48 ar Turbine flange type: T3 flange again, thank you in advance. |
i think 1 or 3. 1 might be the most responsive of the two since the compressor is smaller and the turbine is bigger. are you keeping ac and ps? that limits your manifold options.

T3/60
or GT35 baby! |
hp or whp?
big difference. if you want maximum "under curve" as suggested by your spool goals, I'd max out a 2871 on e85. should get you 350 maybe even more. |

But seriously, Vlad said it, we need some more information. Also, why a china turbo? There are consistent dynos that show Great-Wall-of-Turbos making MUCH less torque than the OG turbos. In some cases nearly 100wtq difference @ 4k-rpm. If OP wants to spank evo's, he might want to spend some cash on a OG turbo (I mean come on, he's dropping coin on a tubular exhaust manifold and custom intake manifold. Don't be a cheap ass) EDIT: Get a fucking EFR!!!!!!!! |
or a holset

didn't get a chance to get to the shop today. I'll pm you when I haz pics

Sav pulled just over 350whp @ 17psi on E85 w/ a 2871, so OP should not have a problem duplicating those numbers, IF he uses the correct hot side parts, of course.

I mean this with all due respect, I mean come on, I have a chinaturd on my car right now :giggle: (placeholder) OP, don't cheap out. Built motor, tubular exhaust manifold, custom intake manifold; you owe it to your car to get a bad ass turbo. EFR, Holset, Precision, WIN |

My chinacharger made good torque too.
But that's not the point here, you want potential for more than 375 yet you want 4500rpm full boost. A compromise will have to be made. Period. |

Period. so, then i guess i am now asking is do you think any of those will make start spoolin around when id like? Edit: idk if this clears anything up. But im not trying to pull those nubers immediately, id have plenty fun with 300-325 for a while, id just like something with more. So im not stuck wanting to buy something bigger 2 months down the road. Im also trying to learn what the real hp rating of these would be. 18psi made 307 hp on a turbo rated for 500 hp. So idk wat im missing here. Lol |

we usually talk in whp not the same thing. 307x(roughly 25%)= 384hp Plus I was on a log mani, internally gated, ran low boost and low timing for the turbo and fuel I was working with. But don't look at my car as an example, I was nowhere NEAR really pushing the setup, and did a bunch of things just to stay safe/streetable/etc. Had I gone with a proper exhaust mani, t3 hotside, ewg, ran like 20psi with timing in the 25* (like you could easily do on e85) and basically PUSHED my car I would have made much much more power. Thing is, I didnt cause I was plenty happy with how it was. I executed the car for my goals and chose to do some things differently for my own reasons. You could easily reach your goals with a properly set up 2871 or 3071. The 28 will spool more to your liking. |

Wow, if I could run 25* @ 5500 RPM @ 20psi it would be fucking awesome. I would love to have one number across all my boost rows lol |
With e85 that's completely possible.
Though 1 number accross all rows doesn't mean shit besides a pretty table. You want to maximize the curve not make the table pretty. |
