GT2554 Compressor housing on SR20T25

This should work fine, right? I cant find any differences between the wheel diameters online so I figure they're the same other than the shitty flanged inlet/outlet on the SR20 housing.

I ask because of the following:

I swapped out my stock SR20T25 compressor housing with Lev's old GT2554 compressor housing to clean up my intercooler piping. Now my hot side piping is super baller, except that my turbo doesn't seem to work correctly anymore. When it spools up (or tries to spool up) it gives me a lower pitch SHHH sound instead of the higher pitched PSSS spooling sound that I'm used to.

I cant find a boost leak anywhere in my charge piping/couplers, that was my first guess. So now i'm wondering if perhaps the GT2554 housing on the SR20T25 isn't compatible afterall and the wheel is just in a housing that is too big and its spinning away and not accomplishing anything.

Hmmm, what say you?

This is coming from the top of my head, but I think the turbine wheel on the sr20 is like 53.6 mm? And the gt2554 is like 53mm. The difference may be causing your issue.

that checks.... info I've seen said the SR20 T25s are 53.8mm, and garretts site say 53.0 for the GT25 series

53.8, thanks for the correction. I knew it was close, but different.

I'm talking about the compressor wheel. Is that what you meant?

Nope. I'm talking about the turbine wheel.

compressor specs also slightly different....T25 being slightly larger. perhaps its rubbing/contacting the housing?

Damnit, I swear I thats the information I checked before I did this. Looks like the compressor is 56mm on the SR20 and 54.3 on the GT2554.

Well fuck its all gotta come back off :(

I have a spare sr20 compressor with all the flanges if you're interested.

We'll see. If the GT2554 wheel will fit on the SR20 shaft, then i'm fine. If not i'm probably just going order a T28 wheel and housing and call it good for awhile.

Edit:

Think this would fit?

With this housing:

Maybe i'm just dreaming...?

Not to thread jack, but I might be interested in the compressor if you're looking to get rid of it :). PM me?

So as it turns out Lev's old turbo was a 2560, not a 2554 like he thought. Also, as it turns out, a 2560 compressor housing doesn't work on a T25.

As it turns out again, you cannot just swap over the 2560 wheel to a T25 since the recess in the CHRA that the wheel sits in is sized to fit the wheel. Pics for comparison. 2560 wheel on the left.

I wish it were possible to turn my SR20 T25 into a 2560 :(
