GT2560R + Billet Compressor Wheel = ???

Motor: 1.8L @ 10:1 Compression
Fuel: 93 Octane usa pump gas
Target Boost: 6-7 psi

Hi Miata Turbo community 😀,

Has anyone tried those new billet compressor wheels in a Garrett GT2560R turbo (similar to the JDS wheel for BrokeandBoosted's GT2554R)? If yes, how much faster did the turbo spool and did it flow more/cooler temps at the same low boost pressures (i.e. 6-7 psi)?

You won't notice any difference in these boost levels.

So, if the billet compressor wheel upgrade is lighter weight than the original cast compressor wheel of the GT2560R, the turbo won't build boost faster or have better transient reponse?

Not many have done this upgrade (read: one person), and at such low boost levels it's hard to say if there will be greater than marginal results.

I'm assuming you watched this video?

Hi Braineack,

Yes that is the video I was referring to earlier and this is the company who makes the billet compressor wheel upgrades: jdsperformanceturbos .

I emailed JDS asking for weight and specs of their GT2560R billet compressor wheel upgrade, but never received a response, hence me asking the question to this Mazda community. 👽

I installed a billet GT2860R (1mm larger bore) wheel on my GT2560R.

Its shiney, spools quieter than the original wheel.

I have a few dyno pools before the wheel, but i have not dynoed after the new wheel, so i cant say if it changed anything.

I normally run about 10-12 lbs boost.

I'm running a GTX2867R with a billet wheel and ball bearing center housing and it spools similarly to my Chinese 2870 with cast wheel and journal bearing. With these little turbos I don't know if the mass difference will be as obvious as it is with large diameter turbos. I wouldn't likely notice a 100-200 RPM difference if that's all it was, so I might not be as much help as someone who had multiple dyno sessions and lots of data.
