These new Garrett GTX turbos seem to show a real performance gain if you "go down one size" because they have similar flow characteristics to the old GT models down low, but "open up" in the mid range and above. At least, that what it looks like compared to the GT2860rs and GTX2863.

They will both have more lag and be less responsive to transient inputs, but the 2867 will probably make more power.

I have been driving a customer's 2871R-powered MSM all week and it is definitely not as responsive as an EFR6258 in the 2500-3500 range.

The idea is that the wheel is smaller than the 71mm but out performs it in spool and max output.

the 2863 (63mm), is a 43 lb/min wheel and 78% efficient
the 2867 (67mm), is a 47 lb/min wheel and 79% efficient
the 2871 (71mm) is a 45 lb/min wheel and 75% efficient

Garrett doesn't make a .56 hotside, and the GTX turbos all use the current Garrett hotsides. Just the compressor wheel/housing changes.

BTW, I am going to fiddle with an EFR7064 on Theseus as soon as I can get my hands on the turbo. 70mm compressor that moves 56lbs/min. :giggle:

Mistake, 56 trim .68 hotside.

it's not a .68 hotside. that's the A/R of the compressor housing used during testing.

At least I'll admit when I'm wrong. BTWs thanks for adding the efficiency and lb/min of the different turbos. Really makes me like the 2867.

Looking at the maps:

GTX2863 spool will be very similar to GT2860RS (looking at bottom left of map and shaft RPMs). But efficiency at 15 psi is higher and ultimate power is much higher. Win-win-win!
