Guys with the T25 setups.. how much power are you putting down?
 
Well I'm not sure if you guys are all aware of my setup but i'm currently building a DIY 1.8L. So far i've got EMB, HKS Mani, and now the turbo is needed.


My plans are to eventually take off the EMB go with a MS, and for the turbo go with a GT2871R. But for now my car is currently being built by myself, and I want to do all the work myself and this being my first project car, I don't want to risk breaking expensive parts so I figure EMB+ Mitsu T25 is cheap and reliable. What do you guys think? How much power can I put down on that Mitsu T25? I would like to put down 200whp and do that reliably.



How much power are you guys putting down on your T25's and are they Mitsu T25's?

a Mitsu turbo won't bolt onto your HKS mani, they have different bolt patterns. You want a Nissan T25 like from an SR20 or something similar for the HKS. I would say my Garrett T25 setup is around 170-180 with a poor tune.

This is true, but not a major setback. As stated, other T25s will work if you are set on that turbo "at first." A reliable 200whp is achievable with good management and tune.

The larger turbo is not going to "break expensive parts." You can run whatever boost you feel is safe with either and be just fine. Conversely, you could also blow your motor with either turbo as well. So, if you want cheap and possibly unreliable, buy a used T25 turbo. YMMV. There are a few threads pertaining to the perils of used turbos, and many successes. Again, YMMV.

The deciding factors should be driveability (do you want boost all the time?) ultimate power goals, cost, plus a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting. Personally, with the 1.8, I like the other turbo better.

By other turbo are you reffering to the GT2871R? I would also like to go with that turbo as I feel it is the best for this flange type. I'm going to go with the nissan T25 I found in san diego and just bolt that up for now.

Yes, the larger turbo.

Some people report daily driving with a T25 on a 1.8 is like boost the instant you breath on the pedal. Not necessarily a bad thing. Maybe that's with exhaust, etc., but it's all subjective anyway.

If you found a good Nissan T25, than use it for sure. You'll notice the turbo inlet is square instead of round.

I am running an HKS, T25, 1.8 and EMB. I don't know how much power:(?

But no problems keeping up wiht the 3.0 minivans...:)

Well Today I picked up a T25 off a blacktop SR20. Looks to be in good condition. All thats left to buy now is FMIC,WG,BOV, Exhaust.

I have the .80 trim sr turbo in my car, Im hoping to touch 200-230 with it, right now my car is in a coma wating to wake in fury, hopefully all comes out well

Man i just keep seeing people with the BEGI mani's and that intercooler is so awesome and it just makes me falter in my project. It's so hard to not just buy all that nice stuff, i sure as hell can't afford it though.

Yes sir.

For the intercooler piping, use the size of the compressor outlet on the hot side. It's 2" on a dsm T25. Are you running an intercooler? If so, the endtanks are likely 2.5". If they are 2", then there's no issue. If they're 2.5", run an 2"-2.5" adapter from the intercooler to the hot pipe. On the cold side, you can run a 2.5" pipe the whole way, which will fit nicely on your throttle body, or you could still use 2" and fit a couple of reducers at either end. It does not really matter.. 2" pipe will not be a restriction while 2.5" pipe is not going to "give you turbo lag while the pipe pressurizes :)"

Exhaust. It's a matter of need. If you are looking for that 200 whp, rock a 2.5" turboback. Get er done. That will let you breath very well. If you have wild aspirations, or want to be super cool (or lame depending on who you talk to) rock that 3". My opinion.. Bigger is better! :eek: :rofl:

It's not the turbo (although a T25 is pretty tiny) it's how much room you have between the DP and the inner fender lip. My Begi fit by abou 1/8"... so I dremeled off about another 1/2 of metal to compensate for any engine movement and now it clears fine.

This is a SR20det T25 (standard 5-bolt housing) with a Begi DP and Manifold.
You can see the pink line is where the metal used to come out to and how much I actually shaved off. With a custom 3" piece... the fitment is critical.
