The crankcase is pressurized when BOOST makes it into the crankcase through blown rings. Or it can make its way into the valve cover if the PCV valve isn't strong enough or is compromised. The space under the valve cover and the crankcase are connected through holes that run through the block. You can also pressurize the crankcase if you blow a head-gasket and boost makes it through the compromised gasket and into the holes than run through the block that connect the valve space and the crankcase.
Since the oil drain from the turbo drains itself directly into the crankcase (oilpan), when you pressurize that space, it prevents oil from draining... backing up oil in the oil return line into the CHRA... but since oil is still being forced into the CHRA through the oil-feed line, you pressurize the CHRA and the oil has nowhere to go but out through the turbo seals into the compressor or turbine... and you burn oil. You will also usually get a lot of oil leaking through the outside of the turbine housing coating the outside of the housing. You will almost always blow your dipstick out and cover the back of the engine bay in oil. |

Its not boost to the crankcase just a breather filter on the crank case

That works fine as well. Make sure you have a good PCV valve, if it's leaking boost into the valvecover you'll still have the same problem.

So if I buy a standard PCV vavle for a 1988-1989: 4Cyl 1.6L Gas, Fuel Injected, Turbo GTX. This will replace the valve on my 91 1.6? I figure I need to replace it anyways.

ok so i did not do this right but it fixed it i took it off took it apart cleaned it out it was a mess dirt in a turbo i have never seen it before but the seal could not seal from all the shit lol, but it is back to good
