help identify this turbo

it is A/R .80 Coldside
stamped m24 on the side.

the garrett tag says.
KEM002523
446179-5066

been told it is a t28.

however the shop that built the car originally says it is a GT2871 dual ball bearing turbo?

which I think is still based on the t28 pattern?

thanks.

rharris19 01-28-2010 11:21 PM

Gt2860RS and yes it still has the t28 pattern

codeman583 01-28-2010 11:28 PM

thanks

seeming as you have that turbo wht kind of power are you getting at what boost level?
is it the dual ball bearing?
noob here!:loser:

rharris19 01-29-2010 12:00 AM

Yes it is ball bearing. Power depends on what the little number is on the inside at the base of the exhaust turbine. Should be a .64 or .86. .64 look to top out around 290-300hp and .86 330-350hp.

codeman583 01-29-2010 12:09 AM

there is a lot of numbers on it.
here they are in this order and configuration:
H2
983
52U
15-R
2

that is the best I could discern..

446179-5066 googles to a gt2860rs but this would be the first I've heard of one with an .80 A/R compressor housing, which I do know was/is used on turbos smaller than a 2860rs.

The generic answer to "what turbo do I have?" is "take it apart and measure the wheels with calipers." Then there is no guessing.

codeman583 01-29-2010 12:12 AM

I'll take it apart this weekend I suppose nad see what happens with it.

smaller housing means less psi but faster spooling?

rharris19 01-29-2010 12:42 AM

Don't use less psi. It can make the same amount of pressure, but move less air. Smaller housing does mean less lag but a lower ceiling for power.

well thats fine... 300 seemed like a bit much for a daily duty car. 200-240 would keep the smiles coming.

pics are your friend!

if your gonna learn something, im a learn you dis meow boy!

codeman583 01-29-2010 01:53 AM

sounds like the perfect setup for a daily driver to be pushing somewhere around 220-250 rwhp with smooth spooling, this is what I am ultimately looking for. a fun commuter, and a weekend canyon carver, and occassional track car.

thats not a gt2871R

that looks more like maybe a gt2554 or a gt2560,
or possibly a factory nissan sr20 turbo, idk

I first though 200whp would be enough. It's been less than a month since Im at 260whp and Im already planning on going to 300+

codeman583 01-30-2010 11:17 PM

toying with the idea of putting everything in the pictures for the turbo up for sale. a FWD manifold and DP, the Turbo, Haltech E6k with all of the connections intact.

the head, intercooler and piping would stay with me. too much to ship any of them.

what would a package like that be worth?
