Default Garrett GT3076R with FM2 Cast Manifold?

Hi everyone,

I'm in the final stages of building my BP (83.5 Supertech 8.6, SGI rods, ACL race & ARP everything, boundary oil gears + 99 head) and I'm looking at options to replace my turbo.

Now right from the start I'll say I'm not interested in swapping my entire hot side for a tubular set up. I'd love to but I simply don't have that kind of cash.

I'm looking for a turbo to replace my Pulsar T28 to take advantage of the newly built engine and stumbled across an internally gated Garrett GT3076R with a 0.64 A/R.

Now I have a few questions:

1) Has anyone successfully mated a GT3076R with an FM2 cast manifold? I'm thinking it'll need some serious modification to the engine bay?

2) What do you think spool will be like? I'm used to a little lag with the journal bearing T28 and see full boost around 4200rpm at the moment. To be honest I don't mind the lag. I'll be running BEGI Separated Gasses downpipe and a homebrew 3 inch exhaust

For info the car will be used for a mix of weekend highway and track work.

I've successfully tuned a 1.8L w/VVT, a 3076 (externally gated though) and a 3" exhaust that had full spool (29psi) at 4000rpm (3950 IIRC). The VVT did wonders with spool, so did the EBC. So with careful tuning, spool could be good.

What kind of manifold were you using?

I have done that. With a .86ar too. (thought it was a china 3076). Worked great, didn't require much modification at all, and was at full boost by 4600 or something like that. Check my old build thread if you're interestd

FM does it all the time. Make sure you get a T2 housing, though.

Been there done that.

Above 360-400hp depending on your dyno, you will be flow limited. Above 20psi, I saw about 2hp gain per psi. The turbo could have flowed more. The issue was the log manifold. I had 3" uncatted exhaust.

That said, drive the car like a naturally aspirated miata (rev to red) and you will have boatloads of fun. 4000-5000RPM full boost on the street is not bad at all. You will not be faster than God, but you will have fun.

I had the FM cast manifold & GT3071.

Needed MINOR engine bay mods but that's it.
Although I'm running a T28 now and LOVE the mods I did...way easier to take off turbo.

Thanks guys. I'm waiting on the guy getting back to me after I made him an offer on the turbo. If I don't get it cheap I'll not bother and get a more suitable turbo.
