Help me fully identify this turbo
I just bought this turbo for $200. It's got a decent amount of lateral shaft play but does not touch the housing. There is no in/out shaft play. The guy told me that it was a 57 trim turbonetics. That's about the extent of my knowledge. Supposedly he made 320whp on 9psi on his integra gsr.

Well, I know that it's a turbonetics unit. It was a good deal, and I'm sure it will make good power. I was just wondering exactly what it is. If i don't find out, it's still going on my car.

Generically you can probably call that a T3/T4.
The 57 trim suggests it's a T04E compressor and the wheel probably has a ~75mm major diameter and ~56mm inducer. Coke can diameter looks about right.
Looks like a T3 turbine by the .63 A/R. 57 trim T3/T04Es commonly came with stage III turbine wheels. Only way to know for sure is to measure.
Compressor map: Triangle Tuners
That's my guess anyway. If it is that, it's pretty damn big for a Miata, bigger than most guys here are running anyway.

What do you want to bet that it will make more power than my gt2860? Also, with this turbo, I can get everything set up for t3 with external wastegate. That way, later on down the road IF I need to get a different turbo, I will already have what I need, and can bolt another turbo in with little hassle. Dyno's are coming soon for the 2860. A little more tweaking and it will be dyno time.

wes, pull the compressor housing off and measure the compressor wheel.
Also, needs more measuring of the turbine to determine if it's not a stage I or stage XVI. I'm assuming the common Stage III just by looking at it, 10 fins vs the common 11 Stage I turbine.
You'll dealing with basically what the seller said a 57 trim t3/t4.
I expect to see 400rwhp from you now.
