Default The WTF is this thread (FMIII)

Please help me identify these features of the FMIII manifold

A I assume are standoffs for a heatshield?
B Looks like a threaded plug on the bottom side of the manifold. Looks too small for a EGO probe and too large for an EGT probe.

C The EWG flange gasket is bad. Pick up a new one or have the surfaces milled uber flat?
D There is a flare in the flange here. Should I have the raised section smoothed out to improve flow? Or leave it as is. It looks like it should be cleaned up, but I don't want to sacrifice strength if it's needed. Close up pic below.

This is the top of the manifold, looking down

E is a threaded hole, looks like it's the right size for an EGT probe, but the hole does not go all the way through into the manifold. Does a bracket or something mount here? Or do you drill it through for your EGT probe?

That's all I have for now. Thx

B appears to be a location for EGR connection.

A- Looks like standoffs for a heatshield
E- Looks like another threaded hole to bolt down the heatshield
B- Pretty sure that's possibly for EGR even if your car didn't come that way from the factory. Atleast that's what it's for on the other manifolds.
C- I use gaskets but don't plan to with the new upcoming build, either way will be fine i bet.
D- I don't see any issues with you cleaning up that raised area to improve flow
For the EGT probe, i would drill and tap a hole in the #4 runner in the middle, between the turbo and head.

Yup, B is an EGR port. Say, why would a 1.6 manifold have an EGR? Because this "1.6 FMIII" manifold is for a 1.8. ********.

How can I figure out if it's a 1.6 or 1.8 downpipe?

Easy. Look at the hole for the exhaust ports. The 1.8 ones are oval shaped, the 1.6 ones have like weird 3 pointed shape to them.

E: Right location, looks like the right size and thread, but it doesn't go through into the manifold. It stops, like it would be a place to bolt a bracket or heat shield to.

And B is an EGR. It didn't occur to me b/c I was thinking 1.6

Undecided. I have a 1.8 in the garage and I was planning on a BEGi S5. Economically, it makes sense to keep this. Spiritually, I'm pretty f'n fed up with FM. The joo in me wanted to give them another chance, and well...

Well, I was gonna go S5 on my 1.8, but I'm a cheap bastard and may be intersted if you sell. Let me know soon, since I may pull the trigger on a T3/T4E tomorrow.

You don't want it. The dp does not line up with the ewg. What I think is going on here is they sent me a 1.8 manifold and a 1.6 downpipe
It would have been useful if it was all 1.8, but since it doesn't even bolt together it's worthless. I was angry for a minute, but I'm so beyond being aggravated at FM at this point

Sav, recognize the turbo?
A (possible) option: Cut the EWG tube off where it meets the downpipe, and weld the downpipe up. Vent the EWG under the car, maybe through a lawnmower muffler ?

Just vent to atmosphere after you cut it... Sounds nasty under full boost. Weld up the downpipe after you cut it.
