hey everyone.. i was just wondering if anyone down in the so cali region could help me install my turbo? im a complete newb in the world of turbos. Most of the time, i try to do all the work on my car myself.. but with this kinda stuff.. not too sure if i can handle it my zip code is 91344

I don't live in Cali anymore, but had a question and advice.

How are you connecting a T25 to a Greddy manifold. The standard Greddy manifolds that come in the Greddy kits aren't compatible I thought. Does Greddy also make a T25 mani?

If nobody here can help, you might try contacting SoCalm http://new.socalm.org/Contact_Us.html and see if somebody there knows a turbo-smart guy in your area that would come over and help.

To make things easier, you can install a lot of parts before the actual turbo. Your injectors, Vortech, Bipes, IC (mount it), fuel pump, oil pan tap (cap it), and a few other things can all be installed in about an hour or less each. You can do those over the course of a month and continue to drive the thing without the turbo. Then pick a Saturday and all you have left to do it remove the stock exhaust, bolt on the mani/turbo/DP, connect your oil and water lines, and attach the IC piping and turn the key.

I did my install over the course of a month, doing one part per weekend until all I had left was the turbo itself (sort of).

i have an adapter for the t25 to be fitted on the manifold.

my girlfriend goes to ucsd and im in la jolla about every other weekend. id drive down there for you help haha. oh wait.. but i need to get custom downpipe and intercooling piping done. so if you knew a cheap place for piping and stuff... id drive down haha

I don't know anybody around here using one of those adapters, but I'm concerned that the usual DP's out there (FM, Begi) might not like the that extra 2" of offset in the equation. Have you evaluated that your DP will fit while using that spacer or have you gone with a custom DP? You might be the first to evaluate the effectiveness of that spacer.

samnavy.. the adapter i have doesnt look anything like that. ill try and take photos of EVERYTHING i have.

heres what i have:

Greddy manifold(iron cast replica)
SR20 T25 w/Wastegate
I have all the lines for the turbo to the head and oil pan
Vortech FMU 12:1 disc
MSD Timing Retarding Box
Blitz Old school Blow off valve (one with the horn)
Intercooler (same size as my radiator)

i need to get a custom DP made and custom piping for my intercooler. At the moment.. i have a fujitsubo catback thats only 2.25 so ill need to get custom piping for that too.

unfortunatly.. its my daily haha. so i need to do all of this on a weekend or something. :( its really depressing having all the stuff lying around and not being able to do anything about it

I'm telling you... doing it all in one weekend is a bad idea. With DIY, there's always something that won't work out... something that will be the wrong size... you need a new tool... you break a tool... the hose you bought is too short.... etc... Spread it out over 2 months or so and if there's a problem you can just convert back to stock and not have half the car apart.
Steps 1-5 can all be done in a couple of hours, except maybe #4 depending on the route you're taking there. Just do one each Saturday.
1: install the fuel pump.
2: mod it for dual feed, install injectors and FPR.
3: install the IC (just mount it, no need to do anything with piping).
4: fab up your IC piping and intake piping.
5: Bipes and O2 clamp, dual fan mod.

You can drive the car just fine non-turbo with all of these things done. It won't run any different.

Now schedule a long weekend.
Remove stock exhaust, install manifold, turbo, DP, tap oil pan, route oil/water lines, connect piping. Fill with oil and radiator fluid, turn key.

exactly what he said, thats the way to do it if that is your daily. I remember how it was for me when i was new to this stuff ... even now it would take me a good full day to install a full turbo kit and I know almost every nut and bolt on my car.

I installed most of the stuff early like bipes, fmu, fuel pump but my weekend turbo install still took me two weeks. Too many little things pop up. It's not allways easy to find the parts that you need fast.

well I can lend a few words of advice, the blitz BOV, make sure you disassemble it and lube it regularly. I had one on my RX7 and it would get stuck on the regular. a few drops of dryslide or bike chain lub works for a little while but actually taking it apart and lubing was the only way I got it to work for about a month at time.
