Default Eyesore Racing dyno charts

So, I finally had the time to put all our dyno charts in one place so we could show off the long, slow, multi-year development of the Frankenmiata's hideous boosting system.

When we first crossed 190 hp, we thought we should get some kind of medal for the most power ever made with a 5 psi B6. Then we realized the boost was creeping to something more like 7 psi. Still, pretty healthy for low boost.

Many gory deets in the story: http://www.motoiq.com/magazine_artic...-revealed.aspx

but I was wondering, what kind of numbers have you guys put down at or below 7 psi?

-Dave

P.S. if you don't know what I mean by hideous, I mean this:

wow. Did picasso put that together?

I think that's really decent for 7psi though.

No wonder you guys win! Just cheaters in a Miata.

That's a lot of power for moderate boost. What have you done internally?

at 7psi I was making around 170rwhp on an inefficient setup (2.25" exhaust).

This time was no different. We went straight to our load test, which consists of pulling 5th gear to redline, pulling the engine down to 4000 rpm with the dyno brake, and then pulling back to redline again.
Holly ****, I'm not the only one who does this!!! I've used 4 different dynos, only one guy understands why. I think if more people did this, we'd see much more conservative spark tables, maybe even more low-compression pistons going in engines.

You guys are super awesome.

Any chance you will do the summit point lemons this year?

Other than putting in an undamaged crank, we've done nothing internal. That's all on a 146,000 mile used engine.

Summit Point would be kinda cool for me, since that was the first track I ever went to (1983 when I was 10 years old) and I've hardly ever been back since, but we're done with the long hauls for now. Its all California races this year!

We did some serious travelling this year to secure the championship. We towed to Colorado ($750 in towing gas) and shipped the car to Florida ($2150 in shipping charges). We're flat broke now...

Is that a 1.8 or a 1.6?

I ended up pulling quite a bit of timing from what is considered "safe" by doing 4k to redline pulls and watching my oil pressure needle. When the needle stopped twitching, I stopped pulling timing. I never heard any audible knock. I haven't backed it up with my det cans yet.

I think you are right that people are running closer to the edge than they think.

1.6L.

That was with a log manifold, T3 turbo (60 trim), 2.5" DP, "High-Flow" Cat, and a restrictive 2.25" exhaust feeding dual 2" outlets.

AFM still in place, stock injectors with an FMU, 8* static timing.

That was running wastegate right around 6-7psi. My first dyno ever. With the exhaust I had it took around 12psi to see 200psi.

I suspect with my big mother turbo and 1.8 w/variable valve timing, I'm right around 200 rwhp somewhere between 5 and 7psi. depends on the dyno.

this still surprises the hell out of me.
9.5 psi aint much at all. I saw his timing map when we were both on the adap, it looked conservative as hell too.

where does all the power come from?
vvt? .5 more compression? tubular mani?

I mean I can see those accounting for some power increase for sure, but that low of a boost target and that high of a number on a low reading dyno?

I R JEALOUS

Check out the difference between our cars at 3000 rpm. That's a log and a T3 right there!

Too bad our manifold doesn't fit under a hood...

VVT, big turbo, compression, good exhaust, the power of y8s.

I gained around 1000RPM of spool time reduction when I swapped exhaust and removed the cat...same DP, did minor headwork and that helped too.

I have big turbo, I have good exhaust.

I don't have the power of y8s apparently

I thought I had a reasonably safe timing map, then I accedentally put low grade fuel in the car.

Still didn't knock.

Guess it is a safe timing map afterall

I think there was correction factor applied that made it higher than it should have been...
