Hope this works this time!

Look what I just picked up!

Hopefully this guy isn't in too bad condition, because I know it's a GT turbo and it should be pretty freakin sweet.

Fingers crossed :bigtu:

WOW YOU MFer! thats a great deall good luck

Braineack 05-14-2007 08:26 PM

looks good!

miataspeed1point6 05-14-2007 08:39 PM

I heard you should avoid Skyline turbos because they had ceramic blades or something? Hopefully I'm wrong and that is actually a really good turbo, good luck!

MX_Eva 05-14-2007 08:52 PM

Well maybe that's true but I think it's might be one of those myth things, probably not much different than crank walking and DSMs. might happen, but to very few people and they are probably running enough power that they shouldn't be running stock crank anyway.

The Ceramic blades are supposed to be better against the heat...and lighter i believe, but they might be more prone to defects. In any case, if the turbine wheel blows I don't have a second turbine sitting behind it waiting to suck it in it'll just blow out the exhaust. I certainly will be scrutinizing the turbo for any signs of abuse or future failure.

ceramic's good. some of the toyota celica turbo 4wds came with ceramic turbines. just dont suck pass a screw through the exhaust.

Mach929 05-14-2007 09:09 PM

if i remember right i think they don't recommend more than 15psi on those turbos because to the ceramic blades but 15 and under should be no problem

MX_Eva 05-15-2007 04:04 PM

Well i certainly don't think I'll be going above 15 psi...unless of course the boost bug decides so. Granted I'm going MS now and ECU was one of the reasons for lower boost, but the other was rear end etc. so hopefully I won't tempt myself.

PaKMaN 05-15-2007 04:20 PM

Ceramic compressor wheels aren't recommended for lots of pressure and also they tend to fail during track conditions(WOT on and off). the Supra's in japan come with ceramic turbo's and they are one of the first things to get swapped out. R34 skylines however were replaced back to steel bladed turbos. This is all information I remember reading about 2+ years ago

MX_Eva 05-15-2007 04:55 PM

Well I can take a look, it its steel all the better, it's already a kick ass small dual ball bearing turbo.

RusMan 05-16-2007 02:43 AM

Ceramic wheels were on the t3 turbos from rb20's, the one you got is regular gt2560r if it's off of a r34 rb26, don't know about the older rb's

MX_Eva 05-16-2007 02:55 AM

You know, I'm glad I have you guys, seriously the hell how long it would have taken me to figure out it was a GT2560R without this forum, and like everything else.
