how to help oil lines not leak

So whats everyone's secret to oil lines? I originally didn't have a problem with my oil feed line, but now it seems to have produced a small leak at the swivel fitting. I have one friend that said he puts honda-bond on the thread to help seal. anyone else have some little tricks?

High temp oil line thread sealant from permatex. It's also fuel-safe.

You mean at the "banjo bolt" where the feed meets the turbo? Make sure it's tight. It shouldn't swivel.

BrillntBlk92 06-11-2007 09:40 AM

yup, thats where it leaks. i've removed it twice and retighten it. i'm gonna try that permatex stuff, sounds pretty good on their site. hopefully there's a local place.....man, i didn't think there would be anyone else on the forum this early.

try new crush washers

loc-tite makes some thread sealant stuff.

Any FLAPS will have it.

BrillntBlk92 06-11-2007 11:13 AM

....what the hell is a flaps. i dont think we have any of those in houston. its kinda sad, most of our local automotive stores have been filled with ricer accessories and less actual useful stuff. closest ace hardware is about 30 min. i've emailed permatex to help find a local dealer. is the washer between the banjo and the bolt that runs through is a crush...i dont remember?

SloS13 06-11-2007 12:44 PM

new crush washers (copper) w/permatex.

i get permatex at autozone or advance auto, i forget.

Atlanta93LE 06-11-2007 01:15 PM

FLAPS = friendly local auto parts store, i.e. AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts, O'Reilly, NAPA, etc. Sorry

BrillntBlk92 06-11-2007 01:21 PM

hahah, tha makes more sense. no wonder why yellow pages didnt know what 'flaps' was....thanks

samnavy 06-11-2007 02:48 PM

2nd for Permatex. Don't bother with anything else, just get a tube and you'll have it forever.

You don't need any thread sealeant on a banjo fitting. This is the arrangement:

bolt - washer - banjo fitting - washer - turbo

Do this and it will not leak at the turbo.

Atlanta93LE 06-11-2007 03:14 PM

I thought this was for a screw-in fitting, sorry. Copper washer is def. the way to go. New ones, not reused ones.

BrillntBlk92 06-11-2007 03:43 PM

the part thats leaking isn't at the banjo bolt in the turbo, its that the end of the hose where the female swivel is. at least i hope its there and not before that.

if it's anything like a normal female fitting, it will only leak for a few days a month.

If I were you I'd get a new oil line. The greddy one is a POS imho. Get a -3AN line. Do a search on oil lines and you'll find what you need.

You really don't want oil leaking around your turbo, unless you like BBQ car. :)

magnamx-5 06-11-2007 07:58 PM

this is why i just run a straight male fitting.

Braineack 06-11-2007 08:10 PM

If you tighten everything down good you shouldn't worry about leaks.
